Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced he will allocate a further £140m to provide free school meals to pupils for another year.

Welcoming the announcement, Southwark Liberal Democrat Education Spokesperson Cllr Irina von Wiese said:

“It will come as a great relief to families across London that the Mayor has listened to the Liberal Democrats, in City Hall and Southwark, and guarantee free school meals funding for another year. This will allow Southwark Council to carry on providing free school meals for secondary school pupils, a policy pushed for by our local Liberal Democrat opposition group.

Free school meals provide a vital lifeline for struggling families and we will now turn our attention to ensuring this policy is delivered properly and helps the most vulnerable in Southwark and the whole city.”
