Strong case to say ‘police are institutionally racist against white people’ says former Home Secretary

Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman has claimed that there is a strong case to be made that the police are “institutionally racist against white people”.

Asked if there is a problem that stretches back to the Macpherson Report, she told GB News: “I think it’s partly that, but it’s also been aggravated by the George Floyd movement that took place during Covid. I think there’s a very strong case to say these days that the police are institutionally racist against white people, because this is the tip of the iceberg.

“This tragedy reflects a deeper culture that is pervasive throughout policing. Now, this is not about individual cops. As Home Secretary, I met hundreds of our frontline police officers, and indeed this murder happened not very far from my constituency in Fareham and Waterlooville, and I live under Hampshire Police, and I know hundreds of serving and retired police officers at Hampshire Police who have written to me, telling me that DEI and woke culture has taken over that police force.

“But it’s not just Hampshire, it’s many police forces there, they’re forced to do unconscious bias training, they’re forced to believe that they’re guilty of white privilege, and they have race action plans, and it has taken over the police.

“Now, as Home Secretary, you mentioned my time as Home Secretary, what did I do? I did speak out about this, much to the dismay of many of my Conservative Party colleagues. I was asked to fund race action plans, I refused to do so, and I started talking about common-sense policing.

“I said we needed to tighten up stop and search rules, we needed to bring an end to this anti-white racism.

“Unfortunately, the problem still exists because we have a cadre of police chiefs who are obsessed with identity politics, white privilege, and virtue signalling, and they all believe that they have to engage with ethnic communities and put down white people.

“It is a distortion of equality, it is unfair, and it is wrong, and I want to say, not just to those police chiefs, but to members of the ethnic communities out there in Britain, enough is enough. People need to stop playing the race card, because anti-white racism is killing people.

“We are all equal, judge people on their merit, on their character, and stop fabricating claims of racism. Innocent men are being killed for it now.”

Braverman, now equalities spokesperson for Reform UK, said: “We can’t have one rule for one group and another rule for others. We are here in Britain, we are a Judeo-Christian country. We uphold the values of Christian culture, and we cannot have this continued two-tier policing.

“Whether it’s one law for one religion and another law for others, as in the case of carrying a bladed instrument, or whether it’s the hate marches, where one group and their antisemitism gets tolerated, but another group, if they’re white people, they get arrested and handcuffed, or whether it’s what we’ve seen in recent days, this tragedy of Henry Nowak, where, because the victim was white, he was cast aside and dismissed and ignored and treated so inhumanely that I’m ashamed of our police today. We need to bring an end to two-tier policing.”
