Summer in the Park announces final event of 2024: The St Osyth Priory Picnic

Arts Trust, producer of King’s Cross Summer Sounds, has announced the St Osyth Priory Picnic, taking place on Sunday 29th September, as the final event of the programme for Summer in the Park; the free festivals in the beautiful parks and squares of Greenwich, Bexley and Tendring that have taken place across the summer.

Summer in the Park is a series of outdoor dance classes, festival events and community park picnics, full of music, dance, theatrical performances and physical activity for people of all ages; held in Greenwich Park, Maryon Park, Queenscroft Park, Charlton House, Cygnet Square and St Osyth Priory.

The events, taking place between June and September, are designed to celebrate community, arts, sport and local culture, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, National Lottery Heritage Fund, Peabody Trust and supported by Go! London.
New event partners and a fresh vision have inspired the season of free performances and cultural experiences. Through events that draw national attention, Summer in the Park spotlights the local diverse cultures, offering free events in world-class locations.

The St Osyth Picnic is the final event of the ‘Summer in the Park’ festival series and features the spirited tunes of Ceilidh Tree; whether you’re well-versed in folk dances or eager to learn, this event promises an unforgettable day filled with lively music and dancing. Then there is Fish Out of Water; a fresh, family-friendly outdoor dance performance using hip-hop, interactive sculptures and responsive music to explore themes of belonging, otherness, displacement and migrancy.

Also on the bill is a set from Wandering Hands, the acoustic band that turns your musical wishes into reality; this versatile trio will play any request you give them, and Poetry at the Priory, a captivating workshop, invites you to explore your memories of the priory and transform them into beautiful poems under the guidance of expert poets, while art lovers of all ages can explore their creativity with Sally McKay’s Free Drawing Project and clay modeling.

Step right up to the Circus Drop-In Workshops, led by the talented Victoria-Anne Gunfield, where the magic of the big top comes to life; from juggling to hula hooping and more, these fun and interactive sessions are perfect for all ages and skill levels. You can also examine the relationship between neurodivergence and its effects on working memory with Memories with Connor, an interactive photo kiosk that combines storytelling and immersive performative art to explore the often-relatable experience of forgetfulness.

The Mad About Theatre Company will allow you to discover the magic of youth theatre; this dynamic company is dedicated to nurturing young talent and fostering a love for the performing arts. And don’t forget to stroll through the bustling Market, a perfect showcase of the community’s freshest produce and artisan goods.
