Sutton pupils find out secondary school places on National Secondary Offer Day 2023

Over 95% percent of children in Sutton have secured a preferred secondary school place this year.

National Secondary Offer Day is an annual day where parents, carers and children find out what secondary school places they have been accepted into. This follows on from the deadline of 31 October for secondary school place applications.

Sutton performed similarly with other London boroughs for the number of pupils getting preferred school places this September.

Sutton performed one percent higher than the London average, with 95 percent of pupils being offered a place at one of their preferred schools, compared to 94 percent of children across the rest of London.

A total of 89 percent of Sutton pupils were offered a place at one of their top three choices of secondary school, in line with London averages, with over 68.3 percent getting into their first preference school, against a London average of 69.8%. This is according to figures released on National Secondary School Offer Day by the Pan London Admissions Board.

Sutton remains one of the few local authority areas in England where all secondary schools that have received an Ofsted grade, are rated either good or outstanding.

Councillor Marian James, Chair of the People Committee at Sutton Council said:

“Today is an exciting day as primary school children across Sutton find out their choices for starting secondary school this coming summer. I am delighted that over 95% of our families will have secured a school of their choice – we have fantastic schools in the borough, with outstanding teachers who will ensure our future generation settle well into secondary school life, and the next stage of their educational journey.

“Thank you to all the amazing teachers and support staff who work so hard to support our children and young people through their educational journey.”
