Tagine & Grill Launches Permanent Soho Residency at The Sun & 13 Cantons This June

Following a hugely successful five-week pop-up at King & Co in Clapham, acclaimed hospitality entrepreneur Yassir Chair – also founder of the fast-growing Afuego Burger concept – is set to launch Tagine & Grill as a permanent residency at The Sun & 13 Cantons in Soho, London from 10 June.

Born and raised in Morocco before moving to London at 20 to complete his master’s degree, Yassir has spent years building a reputation across London’s pub dining scene through Afuego Burger, his Latin-inspired street food brand now operating across five successful pub residencies throughout the capital.

Now, with Tagine & Grill, Yassir turns his attention to another cuisine close to his heart: modern Moroccan cooking centred around open-fire grilling, vibrant spices and dishes designed for sharing.

“Moroccan cuisine is still underrated in London and hasn’t received the recognition it deserves,” says Yassir. “With Tagine & Grill, I want to introduce people to the richness of Moroccan food and culture through bold flavours, charcoal grilling and a modern approach that feels exciting and accessible.”

Designed specifically for the pub environment, which has a cosy drinking area and more formal restaurant space, Tagine & Grill brings together smoky open-fire cooking, contemporary Moroccan flavours and relaxed social dining.

This permanent residency follows the departure of the much-loved Mamapen pop-up and marks a new chapter for The Sun & 13 Cantons, bringing a completely fresh flavour profile to Soho with a menu rooted in North African tradition while remaining approachable, affordable and built for casual dining.

At the centre of the menu are Tagine & Grill’s signature kebabs, served open on flatbread and layered with vibrant sauces, herbs and pickles. Guests can expect Chargrilled Lamb Kofta with lemon and mint yoghurt, pickled red cabbage, coriander and chilli sauce; juicy Chargrilled Chicken Thigh finished with Ras el Hanout dressing, harissa mayo and lime; alongside a standout harissa-glazed Halloumi Kebab topped with pomegranate and coriander.

Small plates and sharers bring together smoky chargrilled meats, delicate dips and traditional Moroccan flavours with a contemporary twist. Dishes include Crispy Chicken Briouats, King Prawn Tangier Bastila Cigars, Slow-cooked Vegetable Couscous, Zaalouk – a rich roasted aubergine and tomato dip – and Chargrilled Merguez Sausages infused with Moroccan spices.

Sides such as Halloumi Fries drizzled with honey and harissa mayo and Crisp Skin-on Fries dusted in Moroccan spices continue the balance of sweet heat, smoke and spice that runs throughout the menu. Desserts include Roasted Almond and Honey Briouats – flaky pastries delivering a crisp, nutty finish. Each week will also showcase a new and revolving special Tagine, making the most of the best seasonal produce and rich Moroccan flavours.

The concept combines bold flavour with accessibility, with dishes designed to encourage sharing and sociable dining while remaining affordable enough for regular visits, whether for casual weeknight dinners, drinks with friends or late-night Soho dining.

Tagine & Grill officially launches at The Sun & 13 Cantons, Soho, on 10 June 2026 as a permanent residency.
