Takeaway orders set to rise by 88% on New Year’s Eve

A quarter of the UK is set to order a takeaway on New Year’s Eve, according to new national research.

The study, conducted by online food ordering app, Foodhub, chewed over the nation’s festive food habits ahead of the new year.

When asked if they would be ordering a takeaway on New Year’s Eve, 25% of respondents revealed their likely to avoid cooking and order a takeaway treat instead.

What’s more, last year’s data reveals Foodhub registered a whopping 88% more orders on New Year’s Eve compared to the days prior, as Brits seek out a stress-free solution to kick off the party celebrations.

Pizza has been named the number one cuisine to tuck into on New Year’s Eve, with 16% of the nation looking to chow down on the cheesy treat. Fried chicken landed in second with 13%, while a Chinese takeaway (12%) rounded off the top three.

The busiest period for ordering takeaways on New Year’s Eve is between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. So, Brits are urged to use Foodhub’s pre-order tool to book ahead of the golden hour to avoid any delays and disappointments.
