Tesco grants give big boost to North London community.
North London Primary School have received a boost of £1,500 grant to provide with much-needed support.
Northside Primary School, was able to celebrate after receiving a grant, which will help the school create an enclosed green space used by the school for planting, and other school activities.
The school is situated in North Finchley, and has very little green space. The school wanted to allow children to have access to a community garden and to create a space for ecological outdoor activities.
The Northside Wildlife Pond project won the support of Barnet Council.
The Tesco Stronger Starts Grant allowed the school to put in biodiverse plants, as advised by the Finchley Pollinator project, The new community space brings a much-needed green corner to be used by children and residents.
The school applied to the Tesco Stronger Starts scheme, which awards grants to charities and community organisations, and were successful in winning The maximum amount.
School governor Kineret Kahana, said: “We are so pleased to have the support of the community to turn a neglected eyesore into a wonderful oasis”
The Stronger Starts scheme, in partnership with the Groundwork charity, aims to support Barnet community projects and good causes in the coming years, with thousands of pounds to give away.
Claire De Silva, Head of Community at Tesco, said: “We’re delighted that we can help schools and projects like Northside Wildlife Pond. Stronger Starts invites our customers to use their blue tokens to vote for local schemes they feel will benefit children and young people, and it’s so good to see the impact that the funding makes.”
North-East London shoppers can support their local school and children’s groups by dropping the Tesco blue token they receive at checkout into the relevant voting box as they leave the store.
