TG Lynes smashes carbon saving targets
Leading heating, plumbing and air movement materials supplier TG Lynes is celebrating an impressive year-on-year carbon reduction of 14%.
A combination of improvements to its Enfield headquarters and further investment in green vehicles has helped the business smash its 12-month carbon saving targets.
TG Lynes has introduced more electric and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) vehicles to its fleet over the last year, while the expanded sensor lighting system operating through its head office has also made a significant impact.
Managing Director Andrew Ingram said: “We are delighted to have achieved another significant year-on-year improvement as we seek to become a leaner, greener business.
“The largest contributing factor is our continued investment in modern vehicles that run on either electricity or HVO. In fact, a third of our fleet is now 90% more efficient than diesel.
“PIR sensors now cover 85% of our building and that makes a big difference as it means lights are only on when someone is using the room. We are rolling the sensors out to 100% of the building later this year.
“Even small improvements, such as improved window gaskets, can have an impact. Every colleague is playing their part in contributing towards our goal and I’m very proud of what we have achieved.”
TG Lynes recently invested in a new 7.5 tonne electric truck along with an electric dropside van. Both can be charged on-site and, on a sunny day, all of the required electricity comes from the business’ high-performance solar panels.
Meanwhile, four of its lorries – including two Class 2 18 tonne lorries and two 7.5t units – use HVO, a significantly cleaner alternative to diesel that is manufactured from 100 per cent renewable and sustainable waste, including vegetable oil, tallow and used cooking oil.
The lorries are refuelled by a 10,000 litre HVO tank installed at its Enfield base, producing additional benefits including significant time efficiencies and cost savings.
Elsewhere, Andrew said there are plans to further improve the business’ rooftop PV solar panel system by expanding it and also by adding a battery storage unit, allowing more electric vehicles to charge overnight.
Andrew added: “We are certainly not resting on our laurels and we are committed to continued improvements in the years to come.”
TG Lynes stocks industry leading brands and supplies thousands of products including valves, steel and copper tubes and fittings, press systems, composite and plastic plumbing, drainage solutions and support systems and tooling. An extensive plant hire service is also available.
