THE Conservative opposition on Thanet District Council has slammed the Labour cabinet for supporting a system to house migrants from the area’s social housing stock.
Speaking on GB News Cllr John Davis said: “I think this is a failure of those responsible who have a commitment to the community.
“Thanet has some very real, unique issues; it’s a physical peninsula. There is a limit, and this is the point. And this is not Little Britain talk; there is a physical limit.
“We also have a population density per square metre, per hectare, however you choose to look at it, that is why, in excess of any other part of the country.
“We are already fighting the decimation of our green food production land because of the failings of the lunacy of local plan targets that bear no relation to the reality of it.

“In addition to that, some of us have supported Thanet’s initiatives to vastly enhance our social housing provision, given the deprivation in the area caused by left-wing policies that are resisting inward investment.
“I think it’s because they [Labour] believe that this is a meaningful gesture. Now, to many of us, it’s nothing more than virtue signalling and it’s absolutely a slap in the face to our veterans.
“I was talking to a media connection only within the last two hours, who told me of a veteran that he’s come across in the last two days living in a tent, another one sleeping in his car.
“It’s just not acceptable. And whilst we have a duty to people, and trust me, I stand for caring and compassionate Conservatism and so do the majority of my colleagues, and we do not want to see anybody disadvantaged.
“But at what point does charity not begin at home? People wait years on the housing lists. I am a local Thanetian and have been here all of my life.
“We have family, some of them better than others, and some are looking to establish a secure roof over their head, and it’s just not there.
“And yet, we can find millions of pounds to throw into a pot.”
