The Atlantic Road Celebrations Taking Over Brixton

Brixton Village, a vibrant cultural hub of South London, is thrilled to announce their upcoming celebration, ‘Just Turn Up,’ taking over Atlantic Road this weekend. Promising to bring music, food, and good vibes, ‘Just Turn Up’ will run from 12pm to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.

In celebration of the London Festival of Architecture being hosted in Brixton and in collaboration with the Brixton Bid and Lambeth Council, Brixton Village is inviting visitors to come down and celebrate a destination of cultural significance. Nestled between the two markets, ‘Just Turn Up’ invites guests to explore the dynamic atmosphere of Brixton across the two days, alongside an impressive selection of over 60 restaurants to dine and drink across the Village.

As part of the celebrations, a stand out art installation will span between Granville Arcade and Market Row, to further demonstrate the relationship the grade 2 listed buildings have to Central Brixton and its communities. Designed by AWMA, a local architectural collective based in POP Brixton, the installation will see vibrant yellow decals wrap the floor and Market buildings to bridge the two covered markets in unison.

On Saturday 10th June, guests can enjoy a rotation of live DJs throughout Atlantic Road, from R&B to Funk and Neo-Soul genres expected all day. Featuring performances curated by local South London husband and wife duo, The Handson Family, (Cyndi Anafo & Chris Ellis) this pair will certainly not disappoint. Known for delivering exceptional set line ups at Cross the Tracks and We Out Here, this talented pair will welcome a roster of DJs fit for a festival.

Following the day of street activity on Saturday, festivities will continue into the evening with a bustling after party at Lost in Brixton, located in Granville Arcade, where attendees can dance the night away. If that isn’t enough, a second space will be open in the Village Courtyard, hosted by Jim and Tonic, known for their memorable outdoor events.

On Sunday 11th June, families are invited down to Atlantic Road to continue the London Festival of Architecture takeover and to soak up the sunshine. Food from various restaurants including Black Bear Burger, Three Uncles and La Nonna can be ordered easily on seating zones dotted across Atlantic Road. With an easy to use online food delivery platform and worldwide cuisine on offer – taking a well deserved break from dancing never felt more rewarding.

General Manager of Brixton Village, Diana Nabagereka commented: “Seeing Atlantic Road come to life in a safe and accessible way is something we at Brixton Village are very excited to see and be an integral part of. Families and friends will be able to roam the markets at ease, enjoy dining communally and learn more about our rich architectural significance, through music, food and exploration.”

“By bringing people to Atlantic road, we are unlocking opportunities for Brixton businesses to flourish and make an impact on our community. The weekend transformation will bring us closer together and create an inviting atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. We invite everyone to immerse themselves in the electric music, food, and atmosphere. With something for everyone, there’s nothing else to do but Just Turn Up!”
