The Blue Maid Celebrates 1st Birthday with £5 Beers in Central London

Modern, independent pub, The Blue Maid, 173 Borough High St, is celebrating a
year of milestones on Saturday 11 th
April. The pub is renown for serving a wide
range of great beers from some of the best UK microbreweries, plus wines, spirits
and more from small producers.
The Blue Maid is rich in history, dating back to pre-1542. The site was once a
coaching inn, which served as a starting point for horse-drawn journeys and
accommodated people arriving in London too late to cross the bridge.
The pub wasn’t always known by it’s original name, The Blue Maid. At some stage
in its history it was renamed as ‘The Blue Eyed Maid’ , before its relaunch in 2025.
This name is referenced in ‘Little Dorrit’ by Charles Dickens, who had lodgings in
Lant Street to the south of Marsalsea Road as a child, whilst his father was in the
nearby Marshalsea debtors’ prison in 1824.
To celebrate The Blue Maid’s 1 st
birthday, all draught beers will be £5 all day. This
includes a special edition ‘Maid of Borough’ Birthday Pale Ale, an exclusive release
from UnBarred Brewery of Brighton.
An hourly raffle will be hosted between 1pm and 8pm, with tickets available with
every £5 beer purchased. Prizes will be provided by some of the best UK
microbreweries, with the grand prize being a £100 bar tab at The Blue Maid. From
8pm until midnight, DJ ‘Yacht Through The Heart’ will be taking over the music, so
be ready to party!
To pay tribute to their iconic logo, the modern mermaid, the pub will also be
offering a free beer to anyone who attends their 1 stbirthday celebration wearing a
mermaid costume.
Simon Wallen, Co-Owner and Operations Manager at The Blue Maid said: “We’ve
been open for a year now and I couldn’t be prouder. The support from our regulars
has been incredible, and this celebration is really about saying thank you to
everyone who has made The Blue Maid what it is today. We wanted to throw a
proper party with great beers, music and atmosphere. We can’t wait to celebrate
with you all!”
