The Crescent Primary School gets ‘Good’ Ofsted rating

The Crescent Primary School in Croydon, part of The Pioneer Academy Trust, is delighted with its new Ofsted rating.

Following an inspection in July, the school has received a ‘Good’ rating overall with an ‘Outstanding’ rating for its early years provision.

This achievement is all the more impressive since the school was previously rated ‘Requires Improvement’ back in 2022.

Inspectors praised the school for being “caring and ambitious”, noting that “pupils are well looked after by staff who get to know them well”.

Pupils’ behaviour is highlighted as being “settled and calm” and the school’s values are recognised for helping pupils to understand the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.

The report mentions that in the early years, children are “expertly supported” to develop detailed knowledge across the curriculum.

Other highlights include:

The school has a detailed knowledge of the needs of all pupils, including those with special education needs and disabilities.
Leaders take careful account of the school community, listening to parents and making changes based on their views.
Reading is prioritised by leaders, who have established a clear curriculum and effective training, checking and support for staff.
Educational visits build on pupils’ learning, such as seeing artefacts at a museum when learning about the Ancient Greeks in Year 4.
Pupils take on responsibilities including school council and eco team. These enable pupils to improve their school environment, such as encouraging recycling.

Verity Denman, Headteacher at The Crescent Primary School, said:

“We are all very proud of our wonderful school and so pleased that our latest Ofsted report reflects our brilliant school and community.

“I want to thank all our staff, pupils and their parents and carers for their hard work and commitment and for continuing to uphold our values.”
