Academy Events continue their monthly series of shows supporting new artists at O2 Academy2 Islington, London with their Xmas Party on 11 December 2019. ‘The December Session’ features four hotly tipped groups looking to make a name for themselves in 2020.

Joe Davies, Academy Events promoter explained “We’re thrilled to have so many great new artists in our venues. The bands on our showcase nights in our more intimate rooms today are the future main-room headliners of tomorrow. It’s great to be part of that journey.”

SuperGlu say they incorporate the raucous energy of The Fall, Pixies or The Damned, combined with the irresistible pop sensibilities of Supergrass or Blur, the impish sense of humour of Half Man Half Biscuit and the heavenly close harmonies of The Beach Boy. Their sound is instantly and deeply infectious and new track ‘Forever Endeavour’ is their first for some time, watch the video here.

Making up the bill are Brighton’s fuzz pop Beach Riot currently on their first every tour, five-piece Violet who are likened to the ambiance of Slowdive, the mystique of The Horrors and the intensity of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and the mysterious Black Pixels playing only their second show.

SuperGlu

With hooks stickier than their name, SuperGlu are national treasures in waiting. Since forming in Manningtree, Britain’s smallest town, the punk-pop group four piece have built a reputation as one of the UK’s best emerging live acts with a gift for hooks and harmonies.

The band have performed at multiple official showcases at SXSW in Texas including Huw Stephens & Steve Lamacq’s showcase at the British Music Embassy and headlined the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds Festivals. So far, they have been crowned Best Live Act by GigSlutz.; singles ‘Simmer Down’ and ‘Welcome Home’ were Huw Stephen’s BBC Introducing Pick of the Week and new track ‘Forever Endeavour’ is out now on Don’t Try / Kartel Music Group and was described by getinhereears.com as “an instantly uplifting and immensely infectious indie-pop anthem”.

Beach Riot

Beach Riot formed back in February 2017 and started playing live at beach bars, parties and venues on the South Coast and have now performed at Reading & Leeds Festival. Previous singles picked up support from John Kennedy at Radio X and BBC Introducing, followed by a number 12 on the Amazing Radio chart. With 10 months of consistent live shows under their belt now, the four-piece have just released a new single ‘Stuck Inside’ which Clash described as a “Helter Skelter Indie Belter … (a) taut, punk-leaning slice of indie rock”

Violet

Midlands indie quintet Violet come drenched in big sounds with an indie spark, blending sugary sweet pop melodies with heavier 90’s grunge influences. Pedal immersed guitars combined with intricate drums and powerful basslines intertwine to create a unique ethereal, yet captivating sound. Violet’s debut single ‘Feel’ received a feature on Huw Stephen’s Radio 1 show. The track was followed by the singles ‘Jaded’, ‘Heaven Adores You’ and ‘Wilt’, all of which received acclaim from Clash and Dork while being rotated heavily on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6music show. New four track EP ‘Feels Like Heaven’ came out 22nd November which was preceded with track ‘Pure Blue’.

Black Pixels

Black Pixels make post-pop music out of analogue textures and fine-tuned song writing. With a knack for a build and an emotional climax, they sound nothing quite like anything you’ve heard before. Based out of a disused factory in Limehouse the five-piece have spent the last year crafting and recording an album that draws influence from indie, dance music and neo-classical without ever confining itself to one genre.
