The world’s largest micro-mobility operator, TIER Mobility, has today introduced its cutting-edge dockless e-bikes in the London Borough of Ealing, expanding on its ongoing e-scooter trial in the borough.

TIER, which already operates e-bikes in Hammersmith & Fulham and Islington as well as e-scooters in ten London boroughs, provides micro-mobility vehicles to help improve air quality and reduce congestion by encouraging Londoners to pick active travel options for shorter journeys in the capital.

TIER has operated e-scooters in Ealing since June 2021, and the introduction of TIER’s e-bikes builds on the success to date of the e-scooter trial. Both modes of micro-mobility support Ealing’s key sustainability goals within its transport policies, which include reducing the environmental footprint of transport, improving the safety of all road users, especially those considered vulnerable and reducing dependency on combustion vehicles, especially for shorter journeys.

Up to 500 e-bikes will be available in parking bays across Ealing and first-time riders can claim two free unlocks and 20 minutes free riding by entering the code ‘EALINGTIER’ in the TIER app.

E-bike rides will otherwise cost £1 to unlock and then £0.19 per minute. Regular riders such as those using e-bikes for full or partial commutes can benefit from daily or monthly passes. London e-bike riders can start and end their rides in dedicated and marked parking bays Hammersmith & Fulham as well as virtual parking bays in Ealing, Islington, Lambeth, Southwark and Kensington & Chelsea. In line with the company’s ongoing commitment to offering inclusive and fair access to sustainable mobility, TIER’s e-bike customers will continue to benefit from the company’s UK Access Scheme, which provides 50% off all trips for 6 months for eligible riders including jobseekers, students and Blue Light Card holders.

Councillor Deirdre Costigan, cabinet member for climate action said: “Cycling is a great alternative to getting in the car for shorter journeys and by supporting residents to make this positive shift, we will be able to slash the harmful emissions which cause air pollution and contribute to the climate crisis.

“Getting on a bike has also been proven to do great things for mental and physical wellbeing, so choosing two wheels over four can really benefit everyone in the long-term.

“That is why I am delighted that Ealing Council has again worked to boost its provision of dockless e-bike hire in the borough. We want to help local people in all our town centres get quick, easy and cheap access to a bike, whether they use the hire scheme everyday as part of their commute, or just occasionally when it suits them.

“Hundreds of thousands of journeys have already been made by residents using e-bikes since they were launched in the borough and we will continue to work with providers to ensure we build on this success and keep the hire schemes running smoothly.

“The council is investing up to £10 million in active travel schemes to encourage walking, cycling and scooting wherever possible as part of an ambitious programme to tackle the climate crisis and support local people of all ages lead active and healthy lives.”
