Too Good To Go announces London as the top UK city for saving food, with the capital saving over 2.3 million meals in 2023

Food waste app Too Good To Go announces London as the top UK city for saving food, as new data reveals the capital with the most active users in 2023, saving over 2.3 million meals from going to waste. The data further reveals that 2023 saw 1,371 London businesses signing up to the food waste app.

The announcement comes as Too Good To Go hits the extraordinary milestone of saving over 30 million meals from going to food waste in the UK. Saving 30 million meals is the equivalent of avoiding 750 million CO2 emissions, which equals 14,746 flights around the world or 455 years of continuous hot showering. With 4.5 million tonnes of food that could have been eaten being wasted every year from our homes, the accomplishment is a testament to the commitment to help reduce impact on the environment of Too Good To Go’s community of over 13 million registered users and 26,000+ active business partners in the UK.

New data from Too Good To Go reveals that in the UK, 2023 saw 36% Year over Year (YoY) growth despite the food waste app launching eight years ago in 2016. In 2023 alone, UK users saved over £95 million from using the food waste app, with the average user saving £36.39. The top 2023 user saved over 1,000 bags – that’s just under 3 bags a day!

In the UK an average of 391,615 users are active on the Too Good To Go app every day. In addition to London, the top 5 UK cities include Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool and Leeds. The bakery sector is the most popular sector in terms of meals saved, with bakery partners including Greggs, Caffé Nero and Costa Coffee. Further data reveals that most meals were saved on a Friday, with over 3.2 million saved on Fridays in 2023!

In November, Apple awarded the Too Good To Go app at the global 2023 App Store Awards, proof of the company’s tech credentials. The app was recognised for its exceptional user experience and profound impact on society. “This award served as evidence that, through technology, companies can deliver a strong social impact. Now, from expiry date tracking to final distribution, Too Good To Go Platform enables data-driven decision-making on food waste reduction. It is a win-win-win: for the planet, for people, and for profit,” concludes Lykke.
