TORY MP HITS BACK IN ROW OVER CONSULTANTS’ STRIKE
TORY MP Philip Davies has hit back after being criticised for telling a striking NHS consultant to get back to work.
Mr Davies was trending on social media after details emerged about a row with a medic in his constituency, who wrote to him seeking his support for the industrial action.
Addressing the row on GB News Mr Davies, the MP for Shipley, said today (SATURDAY): “People say they want honest politicians. But I actually don’t think they do. I’ve got nothing to hide and I am happy to share with people what I wrote back to the Consultant.
“This is not a junior doctor.. This is a highly paid consultant who wants to support strike action. I said to him ‘Thank you for your email. This politically motivated strike action which will only damage vulnerable patients who you are supposed to be looking after, is utterly shameful, unjustifiable, and frankly disgusts me. If you had even an inch of shame you would get yourself into work and do your job for which you are well remunerated. To have the nerve to email me to seek my support is breathtaking. Feel free to forward me your tax return for the last financial year, which I will happily share publicly to allow your patients to decide if your strike action is justified. Best wishes Phil.’
Mr Davies added: “I think the strike is absolutely outrageous. He asked my opinion and I replied. Now I’ve been trending on Twitter, with replies from people saying it’s absolutely disgusting that I should say this or should reply to my constituents like this.”
