Upcoming Video Games for Londoners to Enjoy This Spring and Summer

As we head towards the summer, there are plenty of exciting titles for gamers to sink their teeth into. Covering every genre and platform, there’ll be plenty of action for every taste whether you’re into RPGs, racing games, first-person shooters, or arcade games.

If you’re looking for some new games to play this spring, here are the top options.

Remastered Games

One growing trend that will continue throughout 2020 is that of remastering and relaunching classic titles. It’s become a popular choice to re-release old console and pc games with new graphics and features. For example, there are plenty of online poker platforms offering a modern take on a centuries-old game, and the same goes for staples like chess or go.

With games like chess, however, it can take some time to actually learn and master the game. Playing chess online can make learning quicker as people can play anytime they like. Nevertheless, the setting up of the board and the chess pieces can also be a way to learn the different moves of the pieces and how the game is played. Beginners interested in learning proper opening moves in chess can visit here or check online courses that can help them grasp the fundamentals of the game.

But there’s going to be plenty of other remastered games hitting the market in the coming months.

One of the biggest of these is Saints Row: The Third Remastered. Available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the game was first released in 2011 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Saints Row: The Third Remastered will contain upgraded graphics but little else is changed.

All audio remains the same, including the radio stations and licensed music, as do the gameplay mechanics, missions, and ridiculousness that was included the first time around. With its upgraded graphics, the 2020 release could almost pass for a new game that was made today.

Another remaster is Command & Conquer Remastered Collection which is due for release on PC in early June. It will bring 4K graphics to the Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert titles which first hit shelves in the 1990s.

You’ll even be able to toggle between the original and new graphics in real-time, meaning you can compare like for like or enjoy the retro graphics in their tiny 320 x 200 resolution. While there may be a few minor tweaks to gameplay, it will remain mostly unchanged as the team at Petroglyph has been able to recover the original source code.

Racing Games

Racing games are one of the most realistic genres available to buy today. There are even programmes for sim-race drivers to earn race seats in real-world championships. Many current and former Formula 1 drivers also compete in online races for fun.

This July, Codemasters will release its F1 2020 game. It will be the earliest release of a Formula 1 video game for decades, with it usually arriving when the season is almost over.

The game will be sold in various versions, including a Michael Schumacher Deluxe Edition. This will include four special cars that aren’t available in the other versions:

  • The 1991 Jordan 191, the first car Schumacher drove
  • The 1994 Benetton B194 and 1995 Benetton B195 cars, the ones he won his first two world championships in
  • The 2000 Ferrari F1-2000 in which he won his first title for the Italian team and his third overall

It will also include a My Team management feature which lets you be the 11th constructor on the grid, a career mode, and a return of the split-screen multiplayer mode.

As well as being released on consoles and PC, F1 2020 will be available on Google Stadia for the first time.

For fans of pedal power, Descenders will be available for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 from mid-June although you can already play it on PC now. You’ll experience the thrill of travelling at speed between trees and over the rocks and bumps of mountains, forests, and hills. It already has a 9/10 rating on Steam, so you know you can expect a quality game.

Mario

Mario has a gaming genre all to himself. It has managed to stand the test of time while other jumping characters from the 2D side-scroller era of gaming have fallen into obscurity.

While nothing is yet confirmed, it has been reported that several remakes of classic 3D Mario games will be released for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo had been rumoured to be making an announcement at E3 but the event was cancelled after the Creative Directors, iam8bit, resigned from the role in March.

Rumours have also been confirmed by Eurogamer and Gematsu, suggesting that Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine could be the titles getting a remake before the end of 2020.

In the meantime, LEGO Super Mario will be hitting shelves this summer, allowing you to create your own sources from green pipes, yellow boxes, and the classic Bowser flag pole.

VR Games

If you want to escape the real world for a while then a Virtual Reality game is your best option. Several titles will be launched in the coming months including a PlayStation 4 version of Budget Cuts, one of the best-selling VR games ever to be made.

It’s a quirky title, you play an employee at TransCop, an international mega-corporation, and your job is at risk of being replaced by robots. You must navigate your way around the building, ridding the workplace of these job-stealing machines.

It’s a creative first-person shooter-style game with a unique story that doesn’t really compare to any other game.

If you prefer to play with actual guns instead of weapons improvised from office equipment, then why not try Gun Club VR. You can try out a range of different firearms in the virtual firing ranges.

Try out some pistols, SMGs, rifles, and even grenade launchers with unparalleled realism that includes the level of recoil, reloading animations, and sounds.

Another VR title coming to the PlayStation 4 this May is Rush VR, a wingsuit flying game that lets you experience the thrill of soaring down the side of a mountain at eye-watering speeds.

There are over 100 different paths to race on, including ones with dangerously small gaps you need to squeeze through. You’ll struggle to not brace for impact as you fly through these gaps and close to the ground.

Whatever games you enjoy playing, there are plenty of great titles scheduled for release in the coming months. From remastered classics to the state of the art virtual reality simulators, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
