UWL Lecture to Explore Hospitality as a Force for Human Connection and Wellbeing

The University of West London (UWL) will welcome business leaders, hospitality professionals, academics and members of the public to a special professorial lecture exploring how hospitality can help strengthen wellbeing, leadership and meaningful human connection.

Professor Ioannis S. Pantelidis, Deputy Dean of the London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism and Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management at UWL, will deliver Hospitality as a Regenerative Force for Human Connection, Wellbeing and Leadership at 6pm on Monday 22 June 2026 at UWL’s Ealing campus.

Drawing on extensive international industry and academic experience, Professor Pantelidis will examine the changing landscape of hospitality and tourism and explore how the sector can support regenerative ecosystems through innovation, behaviour and human-centred leadership. The lecture will consider how intelligent systems, data-driven personalisation and rising experiential expectations are transforming service environments, while arguing that the enduring source of excellence remains the human touch.

Professor Pantelidis said:

“Hospitality offers a powerful platform through which empathy, cultural intelligence, adaptability, and the lived practice of caring for others can be cultivated. These human capabilities extend far beyond the sector itself, enriching leadership across healthcare, business, transport, the creative industries, and all fields where meaningful human interaction underpins success.

“At a time when social isolation and mental health challenges are increasingly evident, the concept of ‘Philoxenia’ – the original ethos of hospitality – assumes renewed importance. The intentional creation of spaces where people feel genuinely welcomed, respected and connected can transform wellbeing, strengthen relationships and contribute positively to the resilience of our communities and our businesses.”

The event is free to attend and open to the public and forms part of UWL’s public and professorial lecture programme, which showcases the expertise of the University’s leading academics and provides opportunities for the wider community to engage with cutting-edge research and contemporary issues.

The lecture will begin at 6pm following registration from 5.30pm, with a networking reception following the lecture. Attendance is free, but advance booking is required.
