This Sunday’s Virgin Sport Hackney Half marathon is set to become the largest race in the UK to eliminate single use plastic!

It’s a huge undertaking to reduce the environmental impact of the event and prepare for the 27,000 registered runners!

190,000 plastic water bottles will be removed from the 13.1 mile Hackney Half route and replaced with 100% recyclable paper cups.

An additional 35,000 plastic water bottles will be eliminated from the finish line, replaced with recyclable cartons of water!

All Virgin Sport running events (Hackney Half, ASICS London 10K, Oxford Half) will become plastic free in 2019, removing half a million single use plastic bottles!
