WANSTEAD SHOP FIRST IN UK TO OFFER WINE ‘TASTE TUBES’
Daygustation Wines in Wanstead, London is the first shop in the UK to offer handcrafted and fine wines in 100ml ‘Taste Tubes’. This fits the growing trend for consumers who want to drink less, but better quality – a measured approach to wine consumption.
Daygustation owner and former UK Young Wine Writer of the Year Matt Day said: “Drinking a whole bottle just doesn’t fit with the healthy lifestyles of many people these days, yet until now very few decent wines have been available in a small format. Taste Tubes are the ideal way to drink less, but better quality and also experiment with new wines or try more expensive wines at a fraction of the cost of a full bottle. Responsible drinking never tasted so good!”
Currently the UK ‘single serve’ wine offering is very limited with just a few of the big, commercial brands offering a 187ml bottle. Daygustation Wines, who specialise in small, quality-driven wines, are the first company in the UK to have a Revined machine which allows them to ‘fractionalise’ any standard 750ml bottle into seven 100ml ‘Taste Tubes’.
The machine was developed in the Netherlands by Tubes, the world’s leading wine and spirits in tubes provider. During the process the machine preserves the wine with food-safe nitrogen gas and once ‘tubed’ the wine will stay fresh for up to four months. Each tube has a QR code allowing you to discover details about the producer, grape, region and food pairing recommendations.
The Wanstead shop will offer all wines (apart from sparkling which can’t be tubed) to takeaway in Taste Tubes with prices from £5 for a tube of Azevedo Vinho Verde 2022 (a bottle is £14.95) up to £30 for a tube of Jamet Cote-Rotie 2017, which costs £89.95 a bottle.
Online www.daygustationwines.com they are initially offering a Taste Tubes White Selection and Taste Tubes Red Selection at £29.95 for a 5 pack. They will soon add further themed selection boxes based on country, region or wine style. In addition there is a list of 250 fine, rare and mature wines which can be ordered in such as Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1989 for £110 a tube which retails for as much as £750. All wines are tasted by an expert to ensure they are fault free before tubing.
Day said “A major advantage of this light, flat format is the ease of eco delivery by bike or EV – we are developing a special box that will fit through a standard letter box. We are looking forward to a measured 2024.”
