Wembley Park shines as BFC hails “once-in-a-generation growth” in UK production

Wembley Park has recently welcomed crews from a range of popular productions, including Netflix horror movie Choose or Die, which was filmed in a Wembley Park warehouse and The Hive building. Other recent filming in the area has including the UK’s most watched soap, EastEnders, Apple TV+ smash hit Ted Lasso, which scooped an impressive seven Emmy® Awards, and Don’t Look Up, which was nominated for four Oscars, received four Golden Globe nominations and set a new record for the most viewing hours in a single week on Netflix.

The area also enjoys a range of other cinematic connections. Earlier this year, it hosted Secret Cinema’s spectacular, interactive Lady Whistledown’s Society Ball. The immersive experience plunged attendees into the midst of 1813’s highest society, at a secret, stunning indoor ballroom in Wembley, coinciding with the second season of Netflix’s hit period drama, Bridgerton.

Those who missed the ball can still enjoy movies with a twist in Wembley Park, thanks to its Cineworld 4DX ‘extreme sensory cinema’ featuring stimulating effects like water, wind, scent and strobe lighting. The BFI’s figures show that movie lovers flocked back to the big screen in 2021, with 74 million admissions and £602 million worth of box office takings, despite months of closure.

In terms of filming, the string of recent film and TV productions in and around Wembley Park has also included Little Mix The Search, Peter Crouch’s Crouchy’s Year-Late Euros, The Grinch Musical and Fulwell 73’s Stand Up To Cancer. An episode of The Apprentice was filmed in 2016 at Wembley Park and there are currently four major streaming services in production on the 85-acre site.
