West and East Greenwich Neighbourhood Management Trial: public consultation to end 24 June 2025

The public consultation on the trial traffic calming measures to reduce congestion, improve air pollution and road safety in areas of West and East Greenwich will close on 24 June 2025 at 5pm.
The trial, which began on 27 November 2024 and can run for a maximum of 18-months, uses part-time camera-controlled restrictions on weekdays at peak hours (7am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm) to stop through traffic on seven roads in West Greenwich and six roads in East Greenwich. There are exemptions for blue badge holders, taxis, private hire vehicles, council refuse vehicles, and individuals and community groups in special circumstances.
All roads in the scheme are still open to people walking, cycling, and using wheelchairs and every address is still accessible by car – but people driving may have to take different routes during certain times of day.
A spokesperson for the Royal Borough of Greenwich said: “The trial is showing us how the measures work in practice, and the feedback from resident’s own lived experiences is vital for us to decide the right way forward. Doing nothing isn’t an option in an area where air quality is worse than the World Health Organisation’s guidelines. Traffic plays a big part in this but 40% of our residents don’t even own a car – yet they still suffer from its harmful effects. We need a transport network that prioritises safe and accessible options for everyone. This means moving away from car dependency: making it easier to walk and cycle, improving public transport, reducing congestion and improving air quality.
“Thank you to everyone who has given feedback so far during this phase of consultation, and the two previous stages, and everyone who came to one of the recent seven community feedback sessions – if you haven’t had your say please do so before 24 June.”
What happens next?
The council will analyse all the resident feedback and monitoring data including traffic data, air quality, queue-lengths, and bus journey times – before and during the trial in the area and on boundary roads – before a decision to change, remove or permanently introduce the measures is made.
The council wants residents and stakeholders in West and East Greenwich to share their feedback by Tuesday 24 June 2025 and they can do this via:
Online survey: visit royalgreenwich.gov.uk/greener-safer-greenwich to share your thoughts and experiences during the trial.
Paper survey: Request a paper survey by emailing traffic.management@royalgreenwich.gov.uk or picking one up at West Greenwich and Greenwich Centre libraries and returning by Tuesday 24 June 2025 to the library or posting to Transportation, 5th Floor, The Woolwich Centre, 35 Wellington Street, London SE18 6HQ.
The current trial measures will remain in place until any further decisions are made.
