Whisky 1901 to Sponsor Ride of the Legends’ Charity Golf Day

Scotch whisky cask investment company Whisky 1901 is the main sponsor of this year’s Ride of the Legends’ charity golf day, to be held on 12th October at The Richmond Golf Club in Surrey. Over 100 golfers will join former rugby legends, England and British & Irish Lions Peter Winterbottom MBE, Roger Uttley OBE, Craig Chalmers, Roger Baird and Rob Henderson.

Promoting the ‘spirit of rugby on a bike’, Ride of the Legends was set up in 2013 and hosts the annual golf day for non-cyclists. The event raises money for various charities, which in the past has included My Name’5 Doddie, a foundation committed to helping improve the lives of those affected by Motor Neuron Disease, and Sands, an organisation that works to support anyone affected by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby. In previous years the day has raised over £10,000.

Golf and whisky are the perfect marriage, and sponsor Whisky 1901 will be on hand to provide players with a selection of premium Scotch whiskies throughout the day, including on the course where the company has a stand on the 13th hole, as well as during the dinner.

The charity golf event will see participants play team Stableford in a shotgun start. This will be followed by a meal, raffle, auction, and prize giving ceremony. Guests will also be invited to attend a Q&A with some of the rugby legends in attendance. Auction prizes include a rare bottle of Macallan Folio 7, donated by Whisky 1901, estimated to be worth around £1,200, with all proceeds going to the chosen charities.

Aaron Damiano Sparkes, Founder and Managing Director of Whisky 1901, said of the sponsorship: “We’re delighted to sponsor this year’s Ride of the Legends charity golf day. We’re looking forward to a day of friendly competition with the former Rugby Lions with the aim of raising as much money as possible to support the work of these incredible charities. Golf and whisky go hand in hand and we look forward to enjoying a dram or two with some rugby legends both on the course and after our 18 rounds”.
