Worried About Business Energy Costs? Pioneering Programme Launches To Help Small Businesses In East London With Energy Reduction And Grants

Applications for the Tower Hamlets Energy Reduction Programme are now open, a scheme which will help small to medium sized business (SMEs) in East London reduce their energy costs and environmental impact, and access match-funded energy grants.

Fifty businesses will be helped by the pilot scheme initially, and those successful upon application can expect to be paired with an expert energy consultant who will complete an on-site energy audit and provide a tailored energy reduction plan.

Businesses will have access to interactive workshops on how to make their business greener and be given a £2,500 grant to be used towards the installation of energy-reducing technology that helps them achieve long term energy cost savings.

Programme Manager Jane Mossman, explains: “This pioneering programme aims to makes it easier for SMEs to get to net zero, save money, innovate and grow sustainably. The scheme is relevant for all types of businesses, and so I urge Tower Hamlets-based companies to apply now, particularly those struggling with the energy crisis, as engaging with our energy experts could make a huge difference to the bottom line of these small businesses at this challenging time.”

The scheme is funded by a £185,000 investment from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and is run by Better Futures+, a Greater London Authority funded scheme that is delivered by West London Business. The longer-term goal is to support London’s transition to net zero, and this pilot programme aims to help 50 businesses in Tower Hamlets reduce their energy consumption by 25%. As all of London’s boroughs try to meet their climate commitments, the scheme may be extended across the capital to help more SMEs.

The deadline for entries is 31 May 2023. To qualify, businesses must be registered or trading in Tower Hamlets. Find full entry requirements or submit an application here: https://betterfutures.london/tower-hamlets-energy-reduction-programme/.
