YOUTH FOOTBALL ORGANISATION SCORES DONATION FROM LONDON HOUSEBUILDER

London housebuilder Redrow has made a £1,400 donation to help Wembley Football continue to provide workshops and football sessions for local youth.

Wembley Football harnesses the power of football to support and educate young people aged 9 – 14 in the Borough of Brent. The organisation brings together young people from diverse backgrounds, fostering interactions and teaching crucial life skills such as staying safe online and how to avoid antisocial behaviour and knife crime. Their free football sessions also support participants’ physical and mental wellbeing and encourage young women and girls to take part.

Founded in 2019, Wembley Football was created to fill the gap in affordable local sports facilities and outdoor experiences and to support the health and wellbeing of young people. Redrow London’s donation will benefit nearly 2,000 children, helping to fund essential equipment and compensating coaches – many of whom are alumni of the programme themselves.

The donation comes as Redrow launches a nationwide campaign encouraging people across the country to get outdoors and play this summer. Recent research from the housebuilder has revealed that over half (52%) of parents think playing a team sport is one of the most beneficial activities for their child to do while only a third (33%) of children across the nation play team sports.

Zaffar Van Kalwala, Chair of Wembley Football, said: “Sports are vital for young people, providing lessons in teamwork, responsibility and leadership while keeping them active. We also use football as a gateway to support and educate young people on everyday challenges.

“On behalf of everyone at Wembley football, I would like to thank Redrow for their generous donation which will help us continue our mission and help local youth thrive.”

The donation is part of Redrow London’s Community Fund which launched this year. The fund provides organisations, schools and groups at the heart of the North West London community with donations to help them flourish. The housebuilder has also provided investment in the area surrounding Colindale Gardens and has handed over 249 new homes to Barnet Council to support the accessibility of affordable homes in the area.
