1 in 4 Londoners admit to stealing food from party buffets

Sneaky Londoners have been caught red-handed in a new survey that reveals 1 in 4 admit to taking food from parties and event buffets they attend.

The survey, conducted by private chef hire company yhangry, questioned 2,000 respondents on their thoughts and opinions about event dining and buffet food in 2024.

The results show that Londoners are also the most likely to take advantage of any free food on offer by refilling their buffet plates more than twice.

Whilst just 16% of people in other areas of the UK think it’s acceptable, more than double (33%) of those in London say it’s fine to go back up to the table to get more food a third or even fourth time.

And when it comes to the types of food they’d expect to be on a party buffet table, Londoners have the highest expectations, with 35% wanting burgers or sliders compared to 24% of the rest of the UK.

Londoners are also the least likely to select British party favourites such as sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche and pork pie for their buffet tables.

In response to the survey’s findings, Siddhi Mittal, co-founder of yhangry, commented: “From pork pies being handed their party P45 to secret buffet bandits making off with the goods, this survey has spiced up our understanding of Londoners’ party buffet habits.

“The results provide a fascinating look at how the nation parties, eats, and, apparently, squirrels away a few tasty treats.

“At yhangry, we’re passionate about providing one-of-a-kind personal chef experiences – and catering to the picky preferences of Brits who turn their nose up at pork pies and trifle is no problem! So, whether you’re a buffet bandit or a cautious second refiller, our bespoke services aim to bring a touch of luxurious ease to event and party dining.”

To help Brits figure out whether it would be cheaper to self-cater or hire a private chef for their parties and occasions, yhangry has just launched its pricing calculator.

All you have to do is decide on the type of meal you’d like, how many guests you’re catering for, whereabouts in the UK you live, as well as your approximate salary band, and the calculator will reveal how much money could potentially be saved.
