Harvest Rock Church Emits Boundless Faith and Goodwill in Pasadena and Beyond
Despite many hurdles, Harvest Rock Church’s philanthropic mission continues to expand. The church’s City Care Project seeks to extend financial help to struggling small businesses and families. “It’s our desire to sow the love of Jesus Christ in a very practical and tangible way,” says founding pastor Ché Ahn.
City Care Project has made a lot of progress since its launch back in June of this year. The church was able to raise close to $100,000 and hand out stimulus checks to small businesses that were greatly affected by the pandemic. The recipients also included individuals and families who lost their jobs as well.
One recent recipient of the City Care package is Snow Lee, owner of the Pencil Cafe, a beloved local Pasadena cafe. “I opened Pencil Café in 2013 across from PCC (Pasadena City College); unfortunately, we closed the business in 2018 when the landlord didn’t renew our lease. I opened a new café called Cross St. in 2019 with a partner but due to the impact of Covid-19, the business is now closed,” she says. Like many, Lee now operates her business remotely and caters through her website. The church’s contribution helped her sustain her business; however, patrons are urged to continue supporting her and other family-owned businesses to keep the local economy alive.
The Pasadena International House of Prayer, or PIHOP, is another recipient of the package. Like Harvest Rock Church, PIHOP has also been targeted by the California state government. The prayer house faces an ultimatum to be shut down or sued. Harvest Rock Church stands in solidarity with PIHOP in its struggle to reopen churches and protect the constitutional rights of Americans exercising their religious freedom.
The act of giving forms the foundational pillar of Christianity and the Church serves as its main platform. The Bible preaches about generosity and encourages charity and kindness to others. One of the most prominent verses in the New Testament reads “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38) For two thousand years, the church has been providing that essential service to the public, and now the governor of California Gavin Newsom has deemed it as ‘unessential.’
The City Care Project is open for all to join in philanthropic spirit. “We invite you to participate with us, because we believe God is going to bless you as you sow,” says Pastor Ché Ahn, founder of Harvest Rock Church.
Pastor Ché is currently touring the country advocating for the church under a new ministry called 1RACE4LIFE, advocating for the rights of the most vulnerable in humanity – the unborn. Joined by other notable pastors, he vows to unite religious leaders from all ethnic groups to form an alliance against pro-abortion legislation and elect pro-life politicians in the government.
