BARRATT LONDON SUPPORTS HOT MEALS FOR VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES IN SYDENHAM
Rehoboth Community Outreach Club, a charity based in Sydenham which provides over 750 meals every week across a number of homeless hostels and vulnerable locals which are struggling, has recently received a donation of £1,500 from Barratt London. The developer has recently launched its nearby Bermondsey Heights development and has provided the charity with funds as part of the housebuilder’s community fund scheme, which aims to improve the quality of life for those living in the local area.
The charity began its efforts in 2013, by reaching out to families in need and offering befriending, parenting and life skills training. As demand rose and the organisation expanded, Rehoboth Community Outreach Club has provided more comprehensive support by mentoring young people, improving employment skills training and a food bank. Currently, there is a dedicated team of 25 volunteers who contribute towards cooking, serving food, cleaning, delivering meals as well as the mentoring and training services.
Paula Walker-Litchmore, Founder of Rehoboth Community Outreach Club, said: “We have seen our team grow which is great, however it is reflective of how much work is needed. Our volunteer’s commitment and contribution has been integral to the success of the outreach program and have helped to positively impact the lives of those in need within our community. Barratt London’s generous support will enable us to continue our mission and make a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve, and for that, we are very grateful.”
Two locals expressed their gratitude towards Rehoboth Community Outreach Club after collecting groceries from the charity, “We are most grateful for all the help, it’s definitely needed in the area…I live locally and this has been a god send for me today. I’ve come out the house for the first time in weeks, I don’t have social interaction, but I’ve had the best time here, the people here are very friendly and very welcoming, so I would suggest this stays for quite some time. There’s a lot of elderly people, vulnerable people around here, people with small children that can’t afford food”.
Supporting local charities and organisations can have a significant impact on the well-being of communities and help create a positive legacy for future generations. Through its Community Fund scheme, Barratt London can provide much-needed financial assistance which can help grass roots organisations such as Rehoboth Community Outreach Club deliver essential services and programs.
Steve Thompson, Managing Director for Barratt East London comments: “Our community fund scheme is all about supporting organisations like Rehoboth Community Outreach Club, which addresses local needs, support local initiatives, and fosters a sense of community spirit. As we continue to navigate through the cost of living crisis, while many vulnerable people are struggling to put food on the table, it’s great to see the vital work the team does in providing nutritious meals to the community. We hope the donation helps continue this much needed support.”
