Did you know… There are 3.1 million people living in Wales. This makes up 4.8% of the entire population of the UK.

Did you know… Wales has its own national day. St David’s Day is held every year on 1st March.

Did you know… Wales has not one, not two, but three national symbols – the iconic red dragon, a yellow daffodil and the leek.

Did you know… There are currently six cities within the Welsh lands. Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Bangor, St Davids and St Asaph.

Did you know… The highest mountain to be found within the rolling green lands of Wales is Mount Snowdon, known in Wales as Yr Wyddfa. This peak can be found in Snowdonia National Park, known locally as Eryri. Mount Snowdon is 1085m tall, that’s a staggering 3560ft tall!

Did you know… Wales is home to the longest placename in the UK. The name is so long, locals are known to shorten it to Llanfairpwll or Llanfair PG. However, if you want to attempt to pronounce the longest placename it’s – Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch!

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch means ‘The church of St Mary in the hollow of the white hazel near the paid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio near the red cave’.

Did you know… Wales is home to three national parks. Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Eryri/Snowdonia National Park and Bannau Brycheiniog/Brecon Beacons National Park.

Did you know… Llantrisant, Wales, is home to The Royal Mint. It’s here, that over five billion coins are made each year for 60 countries around the world.

Did you know… There are eight universities in Wales, which welcome around 25,000 international students from over 145 countries. This makes up 19% of the student population. The universities are Aberystwyth University, Bangor University, Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Swansea University, University of South Wales, University of Wales Trinity Saint David and Wrexham Glyndwr University.

Did you know… Wales has hosted some major global events over the years, including The Ryder Cup in 2010, the NATO Wales Summit in 2014, the UEFA Champions League Final in 2017, the Volvo Ocean Race in 2018, The ICC Cricket World Cup at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff in 2019 and have just secured the hosting position for the Worldchefs Congress and Expo for 2026!
