Weird and wonderful for Coastival arts event

Visitors to this year’s Coastival will see Reliant Robins with stained glass windows and many other surprises amongst the artwork, installations, open studios and workshops.

As the Scarborough festival celebrates its 10th anniversary, there’ll also be the chance to enjoy a celebration of a decade of Coastival in photographs.

An exciting and varied programme of music, theatre, comedy, art and entertainment has been created for Coastival, which runs from 22nd to 24thFebruary.

Across the weekend, there’s a chance to see 10 years of Coastival images captured by photographer Tony Bartholomew and on show in his exhibition:Catching the light: 10 years of Coastival through the lens, daily from 10am to 4pm at Woodend Gallery.

Award-winning theatre and projection company Imitating the Dog team up with architectural lighting specialist Phil Supple to present Yorkshire Electric in the Spa Theatre from 10am to 5pm over the weekend. Video mapping, intricate lighting and a soundtrack from Hope & Social will bring to life unforgettable footage from Yorkshire Film Archive.

The Spa Sun Court will be home to Reliant Robins from 5pm to 7pm, a chance to see these iconic little cars decked out with stained glass windows.

Scarborough artist Sarah Dew uses music, field recordings, poetry and sonic art to create An Acousmatic Journey, a celebration of the landscape, sea and sky of the North Yorkshire coast, on display at the Rotunda Museum over the weekend, from 10am to 5pm.

Elsewhere there will be dozens of other exhibitions, open studios and workshops at both Woodend and at venues in and around Scarborough, giving visitors the chance to enjoy the work of a host of different artists and try out some activities for themselves.
