FRAMELESS London unveils reimagined gallery and new masterpiece
This spring, journey beyond the boundaries of reality and into the minds of some of the greatest surrealists ever to have lived, as FRAMELESS London, the UK’s largest immersive art experience, unveils its reimagined ‘Beyond Reality’ gallery. Featuring world-renowned visionaries such as Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, and Edvard Munch, the new-look gallery will allow visitors to step inside these fantastic and outlandish works, immersing themselves in the vivid and emotionally charged worlds of the artists.
Featuring masterpieces from the 16th to the early 20th century, and through the innovative use of art, music, animation and cutting-edge technology, ‘Beyond Reality’ brings to life the fantastical worlds created by the artists, all designed to make you FEEL MORE. In collaboration with FRAMELESS’ content production partner, the acclaimed BAFTA award-winning digital production studio Cinesite, the masterpieces have been brought to life as visitors enter dream-like landscapes and encounter strange, otherworldly creatures.
New artwork: Odilon Redon’s ‘The Cyclops’
Blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination, this refreshed six-walled, mirrored gallery invites you inside the artist’s mind like never before. In Odilon Redon’s ‘The Cyclops’, visitors come face-to-face with a shy woman and a towering yet gentle cyclops. This new addition to the FRAMELESS London experience invites viewers into a world of curiosity and wonder through immersive storytelling. Inspired by ‘The Cyclops’ and his other works, Redon’s reimagined universe unfolds as monochromatic balloon eyes drift serenely through the sky, while dice tumble playfully across the ground. As a chariot bursts through, scattering vibrant flowers and colour across the landscape, a swirling vortex swallows the dice in a surreal whirl of movement.
Reimagined artworks: ‘Beyond Reality’
‘The Cyclops’ joins eight other iconic artworks that push the boundaries of immersive storytelling. Thomas Lowinsky’s ‘The Dawn of Venus’ submerges visitors into the ocean’s depths, where marine life performs a vibrant symphony with Venus radiating from her shell. In Hieronymus Bosch’s ‘Garden of Earthly Delights’, visitors navigate their way through a vibrant landscape where the Garden of Eden, teeming with hybrid animals, nude figures and oversized fruit, meets the harrowing abyss of Hell.
Salvador Dalí’s dreamlike delirium in ‘The Persistence of Memory’, brings to life his iconic melting clocks as visitors freefall into a hypnotic display that captures the essence of his surreal genius. Dalí’s masterpiece comes alive as visitors push beyond the flat canvas, immersing in a dreamscape where time bends and drips. The creative team behind the immersive artworks also capture the haunting energy of Edvard Munch’s ‘The Scream’, reflecting the artist’s mind at the time of creation. Anxiety courses through this iconic artwork, as paint seeps in like molten lava, each stroke alive with intensity. A figure is seen with frantic gestures and lets out a scream, while the landscape around him seems to ripple in response.
Other artworks featured in Beyond Reality are Max Ernst’s ‘The Fireside Angel’, Gustav Klimt’s ‘The Tree of Life’, Henri Rousseau’s ‘The Dream’ and Salvador Dalí’s ‘The Elephants’.
FRAMELESS is home to four unique Galleries, each of which features hypnotic visuals and a dazzling score. Beyond Reality is an exploration of Surrealism where visitors experience otherworldly and dreamlike masterpieces, with wraparound projection and mirrored surfaces taking them on a mind-bending journey beyond the boundaries of reality. Motion-tracking technology in Colour in Motion celebrates the Impressionist era, offering visitors a rare opportunity to influence and interact with artistic masterpieces. The six-sided projection in The World Around Us immerses visitors in breathtaking 360-degree landscapes, beautifully brought to life by some of the greatest artists of all time. Finally, visitors will become lost in The Art of Abstraction as they wind through a maze of colour, shape and form to discover the pioneers of abstract art.
