Londoner, Artivist and musician, MIRI, hailed by CLASH Magazine as having a soulful brand of “rebel music” releases her new upcoming single out on all platforms today Friday 21st November. With scathing lyrics like “empire roots are falling, corporations crawling,” delivered in MIRI’s typically “raspy siren-like vocals with a political yet vulnerable tone” as described by LOUD Women, founder Cassie Fox – this is a track for our politically unsettling times, that delivers a rattling cry for action and a flying demand for change.
MIRI’s previous works have received acclaim from notable platforms such as Clash Magazine, BBC6 Music, and LOUD Women. MIRI’s latest single, ‘Freedom Is The Purpose’ is supported by Help Musicians and exemplifies her distinctive style, delivering a powerful fusion of unfiltered lyrics set against a raw beat and captivating music.
The artwork for the single was created by Eastend Artist and Illustrator, Erin Aniker. These two artists met at SPACE Gallery in Ilford at a yearly vigil for aspiring lawyer for change, Zara Aleena where MIRI was invited by Zara Aleena’s family to perform her rendition of ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’.
The vigil remembering Zara Aleena, took place last year with a public artwork titled ‘She Walked Everywhere’ showing women walking for change with Zara Aleena depicted on the frontline, leading the way. United by creating artwork to drive social change, this is the first creative collaboration between the two London artists.

The artwork for ‘Freedom is the Purpose’ continues to deliver the message of a flying call for change carried across from MIRI’s powerful lyrics through to the artwork’s depiction of a flying bird, carrying large groups of people forward in a direct nod to refugee, migration, grass roots movements, protest, people and power which the single’s lyrics encompass alongside symbols of cracked hearts – which were inspired directly by lyrics from the track such as “sanitise the hearts who continue to rob“.

Further call to action lyrics such as: “leaders of the world justify occupation, need this wickedness to stop, sanitise the hearts who continue to rob” lead MIRI to call out supporters of genocide whilst exclaiming “empire roots are falling, corporations crawling, looting lives whilst calling, for the cull to halt”.
As part of the new single release, MIRI encourages supporters to contribute or share four fundraisers assisting Palestinian families facing urgent need including Jamila who left Gaza for Egypt and was diagnosed with breast cancer. Jamila is raising funds for chemotherapy.
