A 77-year-old artist has paid a heartfelt tribute to the team at Specsavers Dagenham, presenting the store with an original oil painting he created in their honour.

Peter Grigorov, who has been a customer at the Dagenham store since 2012, handed over the artwork as a gift of thanks for more than a decade of care, building a warm friendship with the team along the way.

The painting depicts a London street scene with Big Ben as its centrepiece, flanked by shops, cafés and flower stalls on either side. Peter has incorporated the Specsavers logo into the artwork twice, once on a shopfront sign to the left of the scene, and once on a green panel to the right, as a personal mark of appreciation for the store and its team.

Peter signed his work in the lower-right corner and the painting is now proudly displayed in the store for customers and colleagues to enjoy.

Sukhi Biring-Hotti, store manager for Specsavers Dagenham, says: ‘Peter has been a real treasure to us over the years. He brings so much warmth and joy every time he comes in, and to receive this painting, something he has put so much thought, time and skill into, means the world to everyone on the team. We are so proud to have it on our wall.’

Peter, who wears varifocal lenses, says his glasses are central to his painting, helping him to see clearly across distances as well as close-up detail work. He has been coming to Specsavers Dagenham, specifically to see store director Gurjit Singh Sehmi for his eye tests and Sukhi for his dispensing, year after year.

Painting is a passion Peter has long used as a way of expressing gratitude. He says: ‘Gifting my work is what brings me happiness, I have always been made to feel so welcome at Specsavers Dagenham. The team takes such good care of me and I trust them completely. This painting is my way of saying thank you for their help throughout the years.’

Sukhi adds: ‘Peter is a wonderful example of why regular eye care matters. Being able to see clearly, at all distances, is what allows him to continue doing what he loves. His varifocals mean he can move between the detail of close-up brushwork and the broader canvas without any difficulty, and the results speak for themselves. We are delighted to support him in that.’
