Back to the future – global consumer trends at 100% Optical

Climate change, Digital Seniors and the Socialisation Paradox – just three of the global consumer trends for the optical sector in 2022, which were predicted at the start of the year by market research experts Euromonitor International, who will be once again presenting their vision of the future at 100% Optical 2023, which takes place from February 25-27 2023.

At 100% Optical last April, Euromonitor outlined their Top 10 Global Consumer Trends for eyewear, which included:

The need for businesses to adapt as consumers seek a deeper understanding of the risks of Climate Change – meaning they must offer products that are carbon footprint certified. Transparent labelling of carbon-neutral products builds trust and enables consumers to make informed choices

Digital Seniors are a force to be reckoned with, with an increasing population and strong buying power – businesses have an opportunity to tailor their digital experience to target and meet the needs of this expanded online audience

Consumers are approaching a return to pre-pandemic life in different ways based on their comfort levels. Certain consumers are eager, whilst others are hesitant, to resume their normal activities, creating The Socialisation Paradox – companies should provide seamless solutions and multiple options across channels without sacrificing the experience

Natasha Cazin, Senior Consultant at Euromonitor, will once again be a keynote speaker on the Main Stage at 100% Optical next February, to discuss Euromonitor’s 2023 trends report, which is due to be published in January.

She commented: “Eyewear players you cannot ignore the biggest demographic factors in eyewear – Aging population and growing number of middle class. Not to mention the millennials which are a force to be reckoned with. Climate change, digital seniors and an understanding of the socialisation paradox will help your business connect to the consumer in this post pandemic era. Businesses in other industries have responded through VR, AR and omnichannel strategies crucially creating more opportunities to reach the consumers. Let’s learn from them.”

Championed by all the industry’s leading organisations, including AOP, ABDO, OSA and AIO, 100% Optical 2023 will return to its home at ExCeL in London from 25th to 27th February 2023, featuring over 200 exhibitors including Nikon, Mokki, Vava Eyewear, Strucktur Eyewear, Cylite Optics, Clearmed, Heidelberg Engineering, Vision, Marcolin, TopCon, Inspecs and more.

With a strong emphasis on independents showcasing thousands of products at the show, 100% Optical will also feature a host of exciting seminars and a schedule of CPD sessions with accredited education.

Nathan Garnett, 100% Optical show director, added: “Euromonitor’s trends report always makes for a great read, and their insight and vision is incredibly accurate and hugely valuable for anyone in the optical industry. We can’t wait to see what their 2023 report predicts, and for their appearance once again at 100% Optical next February.”
