Bamboo Mat brings Japanese X Peruvian Fusion to Canary Wharf

Bamboo Mat Canary Wharf has officially opened its doors, bringing Chef/Owners Denis Gobjila and Victor Rosca’s acclaimed Nikkei cuisine, a vibrant fusion of Japanese culinary precision and Peruvian flavour – to E14 London.

Following the success of its Stratford restaurant, the independent brand has launched its most ambitious venue to date. Spanning 364 square metres across two floors, the new restaurant offers 92 covers, featuring an elegant raw bar and cocktail lounge on the ground floor, with additional dining and an open-plan kitchen upstairs.

The opening marks an exciting new chapter for Bamboo Mat, a restaurant that has become one of London’s leading voices in the Nikkei dining movement since bursting onto the capital’s food scene in 2022. Renowned food critic Grace Dent famously described its cooking as ‘plates of Peruvian joy’, praise that continues with an expanded menu created especially for Canary Wharf.

Bamboo Mat Sushi & Maki showcases premium fish and seafood fused with inventive Nikkei flavours, including Dragon Maki with prawn, avocado and eel sauce; Spicy Bluefin Tuna Maki; decadent Unagi Foie Gras; and the show-stopping Bamboo Mat signature Volcano Maki with salmon, seabass and asparagus – which is flame-torched to finish at the table.

Cocktails Inspired by Japan and Peru

The Canary Wharf drinks programme complements the food with cocktails influenced by both sides of the Pacific. Peruvian Pisco Sours are a must to start any evening, alongside selected Japanese sake, selected New and Old World wines and signature serves created for the restaurant’s striking cocktail bar.

An Immersive Nikkei Dining Destination

Bamboo Mat’s interiors celebrate the meeting of two cultures. Rich natural timber, textured concrete, warm ambient lighting and playful touches, including hanging ropes, create a contemporary space inspired by both Japanese ritual and Peruvian energy. Upon entering, the striking bar greets you, backlit from above with colourful Peruvian motifs and a line of striking wooden seats carved with different facial expressions, for those who want to perch by the bar for sushi, ceviche and cocktails. Upstairs is the spot for larger parties and to see the chefs in action from the open-plan kitchen.

Whether guests are joining for a business lunch, evening cocktails, date night or celebratory dinner, Bamboo Mat offers a complete dining journey centred around exceptional produce, bold flavour combinations and theatrical cooking.

Bamboo Mat Canary Wharf is now open for lunch, dinner and cocktails seven days a week.
