Bamboo Mat to Open in Canary Wharf

Following the success of its East London Stratford restaurant, Japanese X Peruvian restaurant Bamboo Mat is set to open a second larger site in a stunning new location at Canary Wharf’s Wood Wharf this September, bringing their signature blend of contemporary Nikkei dining to E14.

The 364 sq metre site will offer 82 covers over two floors, featuring a raw bar and cocktail bar on the ground floor and robata, sushi and hot kitchen on the first floor. Gynda Gourmet Hospitality Management group has overseen the design, working closely with Pic Construction Group who have managed the build.

The interiors have been uniquely designed to take guests on an immersive journey inspired by the dialogue between Japanese precision and Peruvian energy. Rich textures, natural wood, cement, warm lighting, and muted materials will evoke a sense of ritual and discovery.

Bamboo Mat burst on to the London food scene in 2022. Described by renowned food critic Grace Dent as ‘Plates of Peruvian Joy’, Bamboo Mat has become one the trailblazers of the Nikkei movement in London.

Guests can expect premium sushi and twists on Japanese classics such as teriyaki, ceviche and tiradito matched with an Asian and Peruvian leaning cocktail list.

Owner Denis Gobjila said; “Bamboo Mat Canary Wharf has been a long time in the making and we’re excited to unveil a completely unique design and larger site for our celebrated Nikkei offering. We’ve been watching Canary Wharf turn into a real foodie destination over the last few years, and we can’t wait to bring a new dimension to its increasingly diverse restaurant scene.”

Canary Wharf – get ready. Bamboo Mat is coming soon.
