BARRATT LONDON HELPS FIGHT FOOD POVERTY WITH DONATION TO WALTHAMSTOW FOOD BANK

Local housebuilder Barratt London, responsible for the Blackhorse View development on Forest Road, recently donated £1,000 to the Rukhsana Khan Foundation in support of its mission to fight hunger. The donation will help the food bank purchase essential supplies, as they continue to offer a lifeline for local people in need. The charity provides many services, such as a breakfast club for the homeless and lunch boxes for kids over the school holidays.

Jahangir Khan launched the foundation in 2013 in memory of his late mother, Rukhsana Khan, who battled terminal cancer and had herself been a philanthropist. After hearing reports of families struggling to put food on the table, Jahangir launched the first food bank in Walthamstow in his mother’s name.

Today, the food bank is entirely volunteer-run and distributes essential food parcels to around 225 people each week. Over the years, the foundation has distributed over 1800 food parcels with an approximate cost of £36,000. The charity has had an everlasting impact on the livelihoods of many families in the area and with Barratt London’s donation it can continue to make a real difference.

Jahangir Khan, Director for the Rukhsana Khan Foundation, commented, “Families should never have to make the choice between going hungry or saving money. Rising prices, inflation, and economic uncertainty has left many bearing the brunt financially, so it is vital the foodbank help as many people in the area as we can. Thanks to Barratt London’s donation we have been able to support even more families that require our services, providing them with the food supplies they urgently need to ensure they can have three nutritious meals a day. We are incredibly grateful for this support and would like to thank the housebuilder for its generous donation.”

Barratt London’s Community Fund scheme sees the housebuilder donate £1,000 a month to a registered charity or organisation working to help communities local to its developments thrive and build a positive legacy.

Pam Reardon, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt East London, said: “As the cost of living crisis continues, it is essential we support our local food banks at a time where many families and people are struggling to put food on the table. Through this donation, we aim to help the Rukhsana Khan Foundation’s mission to fight food insecurity by providing the supplies people urgently need to give themselves and their children a healthy, nutritious meal. We are proud to support a charity that is providing such a vital service, and hope this donation helps them to continue offering much needed support.”
