Bushey House Beaumont marked International Women’s Day with a special visit from Annie Brewster, Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, who spent the afternoon with residents, relatives and visitors at the home.
Annie was welcomed by senior team members before delivering an engaging talk in the home’s magnificent dining room, where she shared highlights from her impressive career in public service. During the session, she spoke about the leadership roles she has held, including Mayor of St Albans, Chairman of Hertfordshire County Council, High Sheriff of Hertfordshire and now Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire.
Residents and guests were fascinated to hear how Annie’s leadership journey began when she was Head Girl at school. She also reflected on her personal approach to leadership, saying that while she always knew she would go into leadership, she wanted to be “a great number two to a fantastic number one.”
A particular highlight of the visit was the opportunity for residents and guests to see Annie in her formal uniform, as well as the High Sheriff uniform, she kindly brought along to share. She also brought along her sword, but as Annie was wearing a skirt, she was not allowed to formally wear her sword. It can only be worn when wearing trousers! Following the talk, Annie took part in a lively Q&A session before spending time speaking individually with attendees with residents, family members, guests and staff.
The afternoon also included refreshments specially prepared by Bushey House Beaumont’s Head Chef Roman, who created cake and scones suitable for Annie’s dietary requirements.
General Manager Mary Jane Bague said: “It was a real privilege to welcome Annie Brewster to Bushey House Beaumont for our International Women’s Day celebration. She brought such warmth, kindness and energy to the home, and our residents were delighted to hear about her life and achievements. It was a truly memorable occasion for everyone who attended.”
Bushey House Beaumont would like to thank Annie Brewster for her time and for helping to create such an inspiring and enjoyable afternoon for all.
