Christmas under the arches at Bird House Brewery

Bird House Brewery is bringing festive fun to the railway arches of Herne Hill with a Christmas season programme spanning wreath making workshops, a Christmas market, carols and an evening of Christmas drinks and jazz. The neighbourhood brewery, taproom and event space will also keep its weekly quizzes, DJs and live music rolling through the season, before welcoming 2027 with a Big NYE Quiz and late-night party.

The neighbourhood brewery, taproom and event space will serve its house beers alongside sourdough pizzas, Italian-style bites and freshly made cocktails. Tables for catch-ups with mates, group bookings and semi-private or exclusive hire are available throughout the festive season.

Christmas wreath-making workshops take place on 23 and 30 November and 7 and 14 December, from 6.30–9pm, giving friends a chance to make their own wreaths together. On Sunday 13 December, the Christmas market runs from 2–7pm, with local retailers selling gifts, stocking fillers, candles, plants, prints and baked goods. Christmas carols follow from 7–9pm.

Christmas drinks and jazz take place on 23 December from 7–9pm, offering a relaxed evening for friends and neighbours before Christmas.

Food includes sourdough pizzas such as Double Pepperoni with homemade chilli honey, Nduja & Chilli and Funghi with chestnut mushrooms, balsamic glaze, pine nuts and chives. Nocellara olives and arancini round out the menu, with vegan cheese and toppings available. Behind the bar, Bird House’s large selection of beers sit alongside cocktails including the Picante, Spicy Mango Mezcalita, Negroni and Espresso Martini, plus wines and alcohol-free options. Every Wednesday, pints are £4.00 from 4pm until close.

The regular weekly programme continues throughout the season. Mondays are open as usual, while Tuesday quizzes run from 7–9pm, with a £150 bar tab for the winning team. DJs play in the Arches on Wednesdays from 8–11pm, Fridays from 9pm–1am and Saturdays from 5pm–1am. Sunday live music rounds off the weekend in the Taproom from 6–8pm.

Thursdays bring a rotating programme, with Bird House Comedy Night on the first Thursday of the month from 7–9pm, with tickets required. Salsa takes place on the second Thursday from 7pm until close, including a free lesson from 7.30–8.30pm followed by live percussion. Folk Night takes place in the Taproom on the third Thursday from 7–9pm, but will pause in December. The Outrageous Bird House Bingo runs on the last Thursday from 7–9pm, moving to the third Thursday, 17 December, for the festive month.

Ahead of Christmas, Weighty Tomes and Tasty Foams brings a pop-up bookshop with Clapham Books to the brewery on 22 October from 6–10pm, alongside a ticketed Halloween screening special from Bird House Film Club from 7–10pm. November’s ticketed events include the Motor Neurone Disease Association Quiz on 8 November, the acclaimed Pints of Knowledge on 16 November and The Twist Storytelling on 22 November. Rugby fans can also gather for Autumn Internationals screenings from 6–21 November.

On 31 December, the Big NYE Quiz runs from 6–8.30pm, with a £200 bar tab for the winning team. The New Year’s Eve party follows from 9.30pm–3am.
