Flat Iron are pleased to announce that they will be opening their first South London restaurant later this year. Located in the heart of Clapham Old Town, at 18-19 The Pavement, the 130-cover restaurant will continue Flat Iron’s single-minded commitment to serving remarkable steak at an affordable price.
As in all Flat Iron restaurants, the menu will be led by the flat iron steak, a cut sourced from the feather blade and renowned for its flavour, tenderness and juiciness when it comes from the very best beef and is seam butchered with skill and care. A rotating board of blackboard specials will also feature, including Wagyu daily specials and a burger, made using beef from the Flat Iron herd in Thirsk, Yorkshire. Sides will include Flat Iron’s beef dripping chips, crispy bone marrow mash, truffled macaroni cheese and creamed spinach.
The drinks menu will offer a handpicked selection of wines, including Flat Iron’s own Malbec, expertly blended by the Flat Iron team using grapes derived from the Limoux region in southern France’s Languedoc. The menu will feature a variety of draft beers, cocktails, and house fizzes.
Overlooking Clapham Common, the restaurant spans two floors with 114 internal covers. The design stays true to Flat Iron’s recognisable ethos, using reclaimed timber panelling, salvaged floors, bespoke lighting and vintage furniture to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere. An outdoor terrace will seat an additional 16 covers, nestled amongst an abundance of planting – another signature feature of Flat Iron’s.
Flat Iron’s Head of Beef, Fred Smith, says: “Opening a restaurant in Clapham, my home, will be special. I grew up in the area and witnessed firsthand the evolution of the high street. Many years ago, there was a butcher’s shop (Moens, now a few doors down) on this site that my family would visit regularly, so to be bringing the beef back has extra meaning. We’ll create something special for this new restaurant to mark the occasion, after all it is going to be my new local. We are delighted to soon be part of Clapham’s evolution by joining the thriving local hospitality scene and by serving remarkable steak to all Claphamites.”
Flat Iron will open in Clapham late 2026
