Covent Garden is delighted to announce its magnificent Norwegian Spruce Christmas Tree will make its way to the West Piazza on Monday 3rd November, where it will take centre stage amongst Covent Garden’s spectacular 7 week Christmas programme.
The incredible 40-year-old tree, has been handpicked by Covent Garden’s team. Searching amongst the 300-acre festive forest, the team were on the lookout for a tree with a particularly striking appearance, one with a straight trunk and a dense, full top.
Hand-picked, felled, and carefully wrapped at Woods Farm near Solihull on Friday 31st October, the giant tree will journey to London before its grand installation begins.
In preparation for its big reveal on 12th November, a dedicated team spend over two weeks preparing the tree’s decorations. Upon its arrival to the Piazza, a crew of over 60 professionals, assisted by a 20-metre crane, spend over 250 hours adorning the tree with over 30,000 dazzling lights and 200 baubles.
This marks the sixteenth year Covent Garden has sourced its signature tree from the family- run Woods Farm, a 300-acre farm which supplies festive trees to people across the country, and in the past has provided trees for notable locations such as Downing Street and Windsor Castle.
For every tree harvested at Woods Farm, three are replanted to ensure that production is sustainable.
Following the festive season, the Christmas tree is recycled into wood chips and composted, to reduce
waste and help the next generation of trees grow.
The iconic tree will dazzle those visiting Covent Garden from London, the UK and across the globe,
reinforcing the destination’s reputation as the most magical neighbourhood to visit this holiday season.
Covent Garden will be switching on the Christmas Lights within the historic Marketing Building,
surrounding streets and Seven Dials, as well as illuminating the world-famous Christmas Tree on
Wednesday 12th November, kick-starting the neighbourhood’s 7 week ‘Theatre of Christmas’ festive-filled
programme.
