Hundreds attended the free concert at Wembley Park’s Sound Shell, a new bandstand on Olympic Way at the foot of Wembley Stadium with its iconic arch in full view.

Musicians from the renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), which previously announced the planned move of its headquarters to the neighbourhood, led the hour-long concert followed by a performance by alt-pop duo, Freddie Joon & Clayton.
The intimate, candle-lit experience also featured a stunning new, site-specific light artwork by visual artist Yoni Alter, illuminating the Sound Shell.

Wembley Park’s Sound Shell was designed by architects Flanagan Lawrence, creators of some of the most notable arts venues around the world, including San Diego Symphony Orchestra’s Performance Shell. It weighs 20 tonnes and took over three years to make. The Sound Shell’s design echoes the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium, and it is purposefully positioned in front of this historic venue.

Earlier in the afternoon, young musicians from Brent Music Academy (a new initiative by the RPO, Brent Music Service, Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, Brent Black Music Co-op and others, offering professional training and experiences for young people from diverse genres and backgrounds interested in either music performance or wider industry skills) embraced their opportunity to ‘play Wembley’, performing new pieces of music written during workshops with a range of professionals upon the Sound Shell.
