Look out London! Avocados take over the city for World Avocado Month

Look out London! Avocados have taken over the city for World Avocado Month this June in celebration of the nation’s favourite superfood.

The UK’s love affair with the avocado has reached new heights with over 1,200 consumed every second. #Avocado is one of the most popular hashtags on Instagram with over 10 million posts and now the craze has reached the streets of London with an avo-mob taking over its most famous landmarks.

Xavier Equihua, CEO of the World Avocado Organization comments: “We are thrilled to be celebrating the second World Avocado Month in the UK, with the world’s most iconic fruit taking over London’s most historic landmarks. We hope all our British fans enjoy celebrating the love for the king of superfoods with us, and take a ride on one of our avo-buses!”

From London Eye and Big Ben and Westminster Abbey – the avo-mob were seen spreading themselves across the capital’s top tourist spots, bringing joy to Londoners’ days – with lucky people able to have an avo chat and take home an avocado or two.

The avo takeover doesn’t stop there. The world’s favourite superfood is in partnership with M&S and Costco, taking over five London Routemasters, which have turned green in celebration. Don’t miss your chance to catch a ride on the avo bus!

Our fondness for our favourite fruit shows no sign of spoiling given its pop culture status and of course, the variety of ways you can enjoy it – from Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s favourite avo on toast to the delicious summer essential avolato gelato.

Boasting with benefits, avocados are loaded with vitamins A, C and E, Omega 3 fatty acids, and half an avocado provides 4.5grams of fibre, making for a healthy heart and digestive system and can lower blood pressure and aid weight loss. What’s more, did you know that avocados contain 488 more milligrams of potassium than a banana? With all that plant-based power, it’s no wonder the avocado is a staple ingredient for the growing number of Brits now pursuing vegetarian or vegan (1 in 8)* and it is predicted that half of us will identify as flexitarians by 2025**.
