Magnolia Court Care Home recently welcomed two distinguished guest speakers in celebration of International Women’s Day, which takes place this Sunday.
Residents and guests were delighted to hear from Helen Newman, CEO of Age UK Barnet, and Professor Catherine Loveday, a leading memory expert. The pair shared personal reflections on their lives, the people who influenced them, and the experiences that helped shape their journeys.
Both speakers spoke warmly about their childhoods and the important role their mothers played in guiding and inspiring them. Professor Loveday also shared findings from a survey she conducted which revealed that teachers were most often cited as the women people look up to as influential role models.
The talk proved both engaging and thought-provoking, and residents greatly enjoyed the opportunity to listen to and speak with two such accomplished and inspiring women. Magnolia Court Care Home would like to extend sincere thanks to Helen Newman and Professor Catherine Loveday for generously giving their time to visit and share their stories.
Age UK Barnet continues to be an invaluable resource for supporting older people to live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives in the local community. The organisation also runs a four-week “Memory Matters” course, which provides practical memory-strengthening strategies for people aged over 55.
Professor Loveday also hosts the podcast Mempathy, which explores dementia-related memory loss and offers practical advice and personal insights for carers and families. She has also contributed to the BBC Radio 4 podcast series “How to Have a Better Brain”, presented by Sian Williams.
