Residents and members of the local community got moving at Magnolia Court Care Home in Child’s Hill as part of Falls Prevention Week, with a special talk and exercise session led by Matthew Ruck from Nuffield Health in Hendon.
Matthew visited the home to talk about the importance of remaining physically active, particularly in later life, and how regular exercise can help support strength, balance and mobility.
Residents were joined by members of the local community for the session, which formed part of Magnolia Court’s ongoing programme of talks and events designed to share useful information and bring the home and wider community together.
Following his talk, Matthew put everyone’s newfound knowledge into practice with an exercise class using resistance bands. Residents and community guests enthusiastically joined in, working through a range of exercises designed to encourage movement and build strength.
The session proved so popular that attendees were already asking when Matthew would be returning to put them through their paces again.
Wayne Hughes, Senior General Manager at Magnolia Court, said: “It was wonderful to see our residents and members of the community taking part together. Staying active is so important at every stage of life, and Matthew made the session both informative and enjoyable.
“There was lots of laughter during the exercise class and, judging by the number of people asking when he was coming back, I think we can safely say it was a great success!”
Sarah Pratt, Home Services Advisor at Magnolia Court, added: “We want Magnolia Court to be a resource for our local community as well as a home for our residents. We regularly invite local people to join us for talks and events covering subjects that are relevant to older people and their families.
“We are very grateful to Matthew for giving his time and sharing his knowledge with us. It was lovely to see residents and visitors enjoying the session together.”
Magnolia Court regularly hosts community talks, activities and events, working with local organisations and professionals to provide information, advice and opportunities for residents and members of the wider community to come together.
