Specsavers Visit Brings Eye Health into Focus at Bushey House Beaumont

Residents and members of the local community were given a fascinating insight into eye health when Dylan Desai from Specsavers visited Bushey House Beaumont to deliver an informative talk on common eye conditions and the importance of looking after our eyesight.

The home opened the event to the wider community, inviting local people to come along, meet the team and benefit from Dylan’s knowledge and advice alongside residents.

During the session, Dylan spoke about a range of eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration, explaining some of the signs and symptoms to look out for. He also discussed how certain health conditions can have an impact on eye health and potentially contribute to the development of particular eye diseases.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a selection of simulation glasses that Dylan brought along for residents and guests to try. Each pair recreated some of the visual effects experienced by people living with different eye conditions, giving those attending a much better understanding of how conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration can affect everyday vision.

The glasses proved to be a real talking point and prompted plenty of questions and discussion throughout the session.

Mary Jane Bague, General Manager at Bushey House Beaumont, said: “We were delighted to welcome Dylan to Bushey House and to be able to invite members of our local community to join us. Looking after the health and wellbeing of our residents is incredibly important, but we also want Bushey House to be a place where people from the wider community feel welcome.
“The simulation glasses were particularly fascinating and gave everyone a real insight into just how much different eye conditions can affect someone’s vision. We would like to thank Dylan for giving his time and sharing his knowledge with us.”

Sarah Pratt, Home Services Advisor at Bushey House Beaumont, added: “We really value the relationships we have with local professionals, organisations and the wider Bushey community. Wherever possible, we open our talks and events to local people so they can benefit from the information and advice being shared too.

“Bringing residents and members of the community together also creates a lovely opportunity for conversation and helps us maintain those important connections beyond the home.”

Bushey House Beaumont regularly welcomes local organisations, professionals and community groups into the home and hosts a variety of talks, events and activities. Many of these are also open to the wider community, helping to make the home an active part of local life.
