Marugame Udon, Japan’s #1 udon brand, is celebrating the turn of the season with a vibrant new Autumn/Winter menu launching across its UK restaurants from Tuesday, 22nd September. Highlighting the ultimate expression of Japanese comfort food, the new lineup pairs rich, warming flavours with one of the culinary world’s favourite modern trends: chilli crisp.
True to Marugame’s Japanese canteen-style hospitality, the new menu is designed to make comforting, freshly made food accessible, with fair prices and fast, welcoming service. As part of its nationwide Japan in Every Strand campaign, Japan’s #1 udon heritage brand, with over two decades of hand-crafted noodle mastery since its founding in Japan in 2000, is introducing a lineup of warming Ankake broth bowls finished with fiery chilli crisp oil, known as rayu in Japan. Guests can choose between slow-braised beef (£13.25) or soy-roasted chicken through the cooler months. Each bowl features a generous sumo-sized portion of protein, delivering an uplifting and deeply comforting bowl made fresh to order.
And what’s udon without tempura? In Japan, the two are natural partners – as inseparable as butter and bread. This season, Marugame Udon introduces two new tempuras alongside the return of a much-loved favourite. The Chilli Crunch Chicken (£2.35) is double-coated and double-heated for an extra-crispy, chilli-packed bite, while the fan-favourite Soft Shell Crab (£2.65) returns by popular demand. Both are made to be enjoyed alongside a bowl of freshly made udon, bringing even more texture, crunch and flavour to the experience.
To complement the evening dining experience, Marugame is spotlighting a curated selection of Japan’s most trending drinks, bringing a genuine taste of Tokyo’s vibrant nightlife to the UK. Highlights include the refreshing Shochu Highball Lemon (£6.45), Sora Junmai Single Serve Sake (£6.95), and the iconic -196 Peach (£6.45), alongside child-friendly and alcohol-free favourites like Ramune Yuzu and Watermelon (£3.65).
The warmth continues into October as Marugame Udon rolls out its second phase on Monday, 19th October. Introducing a bold new rice dish, the Rayu Satay Chilli Crunch Chicken (£13.25), the launch also debuts the standout Mount Fuji Matcha (£4.50). Inspired by the first snow crests on Mount Fuji and the vibrant crimson of autumn leaves, this drink brings a striking contrast where hot meets cold and spice meets smooth white chocolate, blending shichimi togarashi spice with rich white chocolate and cold iced matcha.
Every bowl, tempura bite, and beverage across the new menu reflects Marugame Udon’s founding mission as Japan’s #1 udon noodle maker: bringing authentic, everyday Japanese food culture to UK diners, served fast, made with care, and crafted with genuine Japanese hospitality.
The new Autumn/Winter menu will be available across all Marugame Udon locations in London and Reading from Tuesday, 22nd September through January.
