Met prepares for Wimbledon tennis Championships

The Metropolitan Police has been planning for the 2019 Wimbledon tennis Championships, which will be held at The All England Lawn Tennis Club between Monday 1 July, and Sunday 14 July.

Wimbledon is the biggest tennis event of the year with millions of people around the world tuning in to watch the world’s best tennis players compete. Every year after Wimbledon, there is an uptake in the number of people going to tennis lessons, looking on sites like rad racquets, and joining local tennis clubs.

This just shows how important the event is to people and why it has reached the success it has. It also shows why it is so vital that the MET plans the safety of spectators every year to ensure no one is hurt.

Following many years of support, officers will once again be on the ground for the duration of the sporting event to ensure the safety of the thousands of spectators who will be walking through Wimbledon’s gates this year. You can imagine many of the excited viewers will be making use of a sportsbook to increase their engagement in the event. Colorado sportsbook reviews are helpful for viewers who are looking for the right sportsbook for what they are interested in.

The Met continually develops its plans for the tournament and this year is no different, drawing on past years’ experience of the event as well as the numerous other public events which are held in London each year.

A wide range of policing tactics will be deployed during the event to prevent crime. Officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in the local area, and firearms officers, who will all have the relevant gun permits (https://gunlawsuits.org/gun-laws/gun-permits/) as well as a highly mobile reserve, that can respond to emerging incidents, will be on standby.

In addition, specially-trained officers from Project Servator will be deployed in and around the venue to deter and detect criminal activity, and provide reassurance.

Officers will be working both in uniform and plain clothes.

Superintendent Jo Edwards, who is in charge of the policing of this year’s Championships, said: “It is fantastic that south west London hosts what is one of the most anticipated annual events in sport, attracting hundreds of thousands of tennis fans.

“It is our job to prevent crime and ensure everyone’s safety so fans can enjoy the spectacle, and we have been working closely with The All England Lawn Tennis Club, British Transport Police and other partners to help deliver a memorable event.

“All eyes will be on the world-class tennis on display, but we would urge people in the grounds and the local area to be vigilant and report anything unusual or suspicious to security staff and/or a police officer, or by calling 999.”

– Police advise buying a ticket from an official site, never buy from touts in the street as you risk being sold a ticket that isn’t genuine.

– Crowds can attract opportunistic thieves so always keep an eye on your belongings, and keep bags zipped, with phones out of sight.

– To help make your day out as easy as possible plan ahead and always check travel arrangements. For more information visit www.tfl.gov.uk and www.wimbledon.com
