Old St. Records is taking its love of music beyond the stage, with the opening of a new in-house record store, curated and run by London record dealer, DJ and promoter Cigarette Records.

Giving music fans another way to spend time in the space inside the Shoreditch music venue, the new store brings together around 5,000 records from launch, with plans to grow the collection to 10,000 titles spanning disco, funk, soul, reggae, house, garage, jungle, rock and beyond.

The collection has been shaped by Cigarette Records founder Owain Jones, whose approach is rooted in what he calls “music with feeling.” With over 15 years’ experience in record dealing, DJing and music programming, Owain brings deep knowledge of independent labels, artists, collectors and UK music scenes, with a selection that moves freely between accessible classics, underground discoveries, club records, rare pressings and leftfield gems.

Howard Taylor, Co-Founder of Rocket Leisure, the independent bar group responsible for Old St. Records comments: “At Old Street Records, music is at the heart of everything we do, so introducing a record store into the venue felt like a natural step. It gives people another way to engage with music here – not just through live shows and DJs, but through digging, discovery and collecting. Working with Cigarette Records made perfect sense. The curation has depth, taste and real cultural grounding. This isn’t just a retail addition – it’s about building something that reflects the spirit of Old Street Records and the wider music community around us.”

Owain Jones, Founder of Cigarette Records comments: “Everything I do comes back to one idea: music with feeling. Record shops are about discovery, conversation and community as much as they are about the records themselves. This collaboration with Old Street Records just makes sense. The selection will move through disco, funk, soul, reggae, garage, jungle, punk, rock, pop and beyond — but the thread is always connection. I’m excited to build something that grows into both a vinyl destination and a wider musical community.”

More than simply a place to buy vinyl, the store is designed as a space for discovery, conversation and cultural connection. Over time, Old Street Records and Cigarette Records plan to build the collaboration into a wider platform for music and arts programming, including workshops, listening sessions, artist takeovers and community-led events.
