RIVERSIDE STUDIOS’ HAMMERSMITH CINEMA ANNOUNCES DETAILS OF OCTOBER-NOVEMBER PROGRAMME

The team at Riverside Studios is excited to announce a huge range of films coming to the West London venue over the next two months. The venue’s two screens – a 200+ seat main auditorium with 4K projection and a 48-seat screen with 2K projection – will host a diverse mix of films, from Hollywood blockbusters and international festival favourites to cult classics and family screenings. Tickets start at £7, complementing the cinematic quality with a sleek bar serving craft beers and cocktails, and a bakery offering gourmet toasties and snacks.

Riverside Studios brings you a selection of the inimitable directing brothers The Coen Brothers’ works, with screening dates timed to coincide with the relevant Blank Check podcast release date as the fan-favourite film podcast tackles the entire Coen filmography. The films featured include True Grit (from Saturday 18 – Wednesday 22 October). Riverside Studios are also offering 20 percent off groups of adult price tickets when two or more are bought in the same order for any of the films

The Melodrama Wong Kar-Wai season is playing as part of the nationwide BFI “Too Much: Melodrama on Film” season. One of the featured events is a screening of Wong Kar Wai’s Happy Together (Sunday 12 October), a visually stunning and emotionally charged portrait of a turbulent queer romance, capturing love, loss and longing against the backdrop of pre-handover Hong Kong. James Mudge of Focus Hong Kong will record an exclusive introduction to all screenings of Happy Together. The final film in the Melodrama Season trilogy is (Sunday 19 October), Wong Kar Wai’s loose sequel to In the Mood for Love. James Mudge will also have an exclusive recorded introduction to all screenings of 2046. On 19 October, Riverside Studios presents The Mastermind as part of the BFI London Film Festival. Kelly Reichardt’s new 1970s art-heist drama stars Josh O’Connor as suburban J.B. Mooney, an unemployed family man who plans the perfect museum robbery – until nothing goes to plan. With Alana Haim, Bill Camp and Gaby Hoffmann delivering nuanced performances, and a jazzy period score evoking both tension and odd humour, this film nails atmosphere as much as plot.

The London Breeze Film Festival line-up opens with the world premiere and Q&A for The Banjo Boys (22 October), telling the electrifying story of the Malawian duo The Madalitso Band, Shoot The People and Q&A (22 October), Mother City + Q&A (23 October), Phase + Q&A (24 October), The Stories We Need To Tell (25 October), an Iraqi film showcase and panel discussion, Anxious + Q&A (25 October), and the five-day film festival is rounded off with the UK premiere of the Jamaican romcom, Love Offside (26 October)

Black History Month is marked at Riverside with two landmark screenings celebrating Black storytelling and resilience. Killer of Sheep (26 – 30 October) is Charles Burnett’s acclaimed portrait of everyday life in Los Angeles’ Watts district, following a sensitive dreamer trapped in the grind of blue-collar labour as he questions his existence amid hardship. Souleymane’s Story (25 – 28 October) tells the moving tale of a young Guinean asylum seeker in Paris whose resilience and humanity shine through as he faces the harsh realities of migration.

Celebrate Halloween in style with Halloween with Guillermo Del Toro. Commemorating the release of Guillermo del Toro’s ravishing new take on Mary Shelley’s gothic science fiction masterpiece, Riverside screens Frankenstein (31 October – 5 November), alongside the acclaimed dark fantasy Pan’s Labyrinth (1 – 2 November) for select shows across the Halloween period.

Further Halloween features at Riverside include Poirot at Riverside: Halloween Party Special + Q&A (2 November), a celebratory screening of Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Party starring David Suchet. The Labours of Hercule podcast hosts Frankie and Adam will provide live commentary and lead a Q&A after the episode, with special guest appearances from the episode’s director, Charlie Palmer and the star and script associate, Ian Hallard, with more surprise guests to come.

Pitchblack Playback brings Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness to Riverside in immersive darkness – the full double-LP played loud on a cinema sound system, with an included eye mask and no visuals to distract. The session runs 132 minutes, including an interval, and promises an intense listening experience for fans old and new.

London Surf / Film Festival (5 – 8 November) is the UK’s annual celebration of the cream of international surf culture, bringing to the UK a handpicked line up of the very best surf cinema from across the globe. Whilst film titles have not been announced yet, a limited amount of Evening Passes have been released, which gives access to a whole night of the very best surf cinema plus a complimentary Sharp’s beer.

The Exclusive New Avengers 4K Box Set Launch + Q&A (9 November) celebrates the release of the newly restored 4K collection of the cult 1970s spy series. The evening includes a screening of a Series 2 episode and the featurette The Impact of The New Avengers: Reinvented for a New Era, followed by a Q&A hosted by BFI’s Head of TV curation, Dick Fiddy, with special guests including Sam Clemens, son of the show’s creator Brian Clemens. Stylish, witty and action-packed, this is a celebration of espionage, humour and bold female-led heroism.

Riverside Studios’ London Palestine Film Festival features three powerful new films this November: A State of Passion (24 November) follows British-Palestinian surgeon Dr Ghassan Abu-Sittah’s harrowing work in Gaza hospitals during 43 days of bombardment, exploring the lasting toll on him, his family, and his identity. Once Upon a Time in Gaza (21 November) by the Nasser Brothers mixes drama and dark humour in Gaza, where a student and a falafel chef moonlight in secret drug dealing until corruption and violence force them to confront moral choices. All That’s Left of You (28 November) spans three generations of a Palestinian family from the 1948 Nakba to the present, tracing how displacement, protest, trauma, and hope shape lives and legacies.

The World of Smallfilms + Bagpuss Episode Screening (29 November) invites audiences on a nostalgic journey through the whimsical world of Smallfilms, with Simon Postgate sharing stories, behind-the-scenes images and clips before the screening of the Bagpuss episode “The Mouse Mill.” A House of Dynamite (10 – 16 October) is Kathryn Bigelow’s new thriller about the fallout when an unclaimed missile detonates global tensions, starring Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba. The Smashing Machine (10 – 16 October) is a biographical sports drama from writer-director Benny Safdie starring Dwayne Johnson as MMA legend Mark Kerr, charting the highs and the struggles behind the cage.
